Programs in Technology Education K-12

The graduate program in Applied Technology Education (ATE) leads to a Master of Science in Education for those who plan to prepare for positions as teachers of technology education. Successful candidates who complete the ATE program may apply for and receive the College's recommendation for New York teacher cerfication in K-12 Technology Education.

A Cry for Technology Education Teachers

A severe shortage of teachers across the nation in technology education persists. Each year there are vacant classrooms without qualified teachers in this field. Ironically 40+ years into the information age, technology is a critical field and a needed skill set for our young learners. Ideally, elementary, middle and high schools througout the nation and New York State would have technology education programs for all K-12 pupils that would introduce them to technology at an early age. Technology education teachers support the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers so crucial to our nation's global competitiveness and internal infrastructure.

Consider preparing as an elementary teacher in a field where for every vacancy there are 300 applicants, or preparing as a technology teacher at any educational level where the shortage is so severe that graduate students are sometimes hired before they finish their programs at Saint Rose.
