To the Second Century: The College of Saint Rose Strategic Plan, 2016–2020

Goal 1 Global Connectedness

Become an institution that reflects, inspires, and empowers global connectedness, with a student, faculty, staff, and administrator community that embraces national and international diversity in its curricular and co-curricular experiences, values, actions, and culture.

Objective A

Become a first-choice destination institution for students from countries outside of the United States and students enrolling from states other than New York.

Objective B

Advance a campus culture that promotes the development of intercultural learning and enhances global literacies through academic and co-curricular experiences.

At the heart of everything we do at Saint Rose are our students—whether they are from a few blocks away or thousands of miles away.

Goal 2 Student Success

Achieve recognition as an institution that creates a culture of student engagement that promotes lifelong intellectual and scholarly inquiry and crosses experiential, social, economic, and cultural boundaries. The College will ensure that all students have a clear pathway toward degree and certificate completion while preparing graduates for career launch and advancement, and service to their communities and to the world.

Objective A

Improve first to second year retention, and 4-year and 6-year graduation rates for all student populations.

Objective B

Create a college-wide integrated approach to student success.

Objective C

Expand support services for graduate programs to improve student success.

We will provide students with an educational experience that is both challenging and supportive, that encourages and empowers them to reach and exceed their potential, that will transform their lives and, for some, the lives of their entire families.

Goal 3 Comprehensive Institution

Further establish The College of Saint Rose as a robust, mission-centric, comprehensive institution with multiple academic units offering nationally recognized programs grounded in a deeply thoughtful liberal arts and sciences curriculum, and professional degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Objective A

Strengthen existing academic programs and develop new undergraduate and graduate programs guided by our mission, our demonstrated strengths, and exhibited or anticipated student demand.

Objective B

Identify the aspirational composition of the institution, with regard to the student body, undergraduate and graduate, schools, and academic programs.

Objective C

Create a distinctive culture of inquiry, collaboration, and research.

The ability to champion change is the hallmark of a 21st century education. It is essential that we prepare students to think out-of-the box, to be adaptive and interdisciplinary so that they are ready to function as leaders and team members in their workplaces and in their communities.

Goal 4 Culture of Innovation and Creativity

Achieve recognition for creativity and experimentation in solving real-world problems, using innovative approaches that enhance students’ ability to engage meaningfully with challenging concepts within and beyond classroom boundaries. Members of the College community will demonstrate a commitment to the role of the liberal arts and sciences in developing informed global citizens who are dedicated to the betterment of society.

Objective A

Integrate interdisciplinary and intercultural experiences into curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities.

Objective B

Recognize excellence and innovative approaches that instill the will and ability to be lifelong learners and informed global citizens.

Objective C

Develop a culture of innovation, collaboration, mutual respect, and the free exchange of ideas.

Objective D

Encourage and support scholarship that advances artistic and scientific knowledge, promotes creative pursuits, improves professional practice, and benefits individuals and society.

This is a period of historic change and upheaval in higher education. Powerful forces are rapidly reshaping our world. It is our privilege to be here in this dynamic time and place, entrusted with the solemn responsibility to guide Saint Rose and our students.

Goal 5 Fiscal Strength

Enhance the College’s fiscal condition as measured by our balance sheet and sustained by operational soundness in generating revenue with a primary and fundamental focus on serving students.

Objective A

Achieve a realistic self-sustaining multi-year budget that results in an annual positive cash flow.

Objective B

Retain and attract highly qualified employees.

Objective C

Identify, prioritize, and support revenue-generating strategic initiatives.

Objective D

Plan and launch a comprehensive fundraising campaign that supports the College’s mission and its strategic aspirations.
