Welcome to the School of Business

As Dean, I meet many students who are making important decisions about their college education. Since they are very concerned about being prepared for the ever-changing world of business, the business faculty at Saint Rose have developed a business program that emphasizes “practical” business education and “active learning.”

First Year Experience:  During the first semester, all business students have the opportunity to be fully involved in an “out-of-classroom experience” cast as an entrepreneur about to start a new venture. The project is not a “computer simulation,” but is a hands-on development of a real plan to start their own business. Students work closely with classmates, business faculty and real entrepreneurs from the region, getting a head start on understanding all of the career opportunities that await them.

Internship/Field Study:  Business leaders have identified “internships” as an excellent way for students to gain practical insight into career opportunities. Over the last fifteen years, hundreds of Saint Rose students have participated in our innovative Internship Partnership with the Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce, where students have been matched with companies and received credit for a meaningful, job-related experience. Starting this year, all Saint Rose students majoring in Business Administration will be required to have an internship or field study experience prior to graduation.

Capstone Experience:  At Saint Rose, all business students have the opportunity to specialize in one or more of nine business concentrations, but during the senior year, students are brought back together in an “Integrated Business Experience.” Using in depth “case analysis,” students develop strategic management plans integrating knowledge from the business core and their concentrations. Students are required to develop professional oral and written presentations of their plans.

Sincerely
