Huether School of Business

S. CarlsonIf you haven’t heard the news, due to the generous support of long-time friend and Trustee of The College of Saint Rose, Richard Huether, we recently broke ground for our new Huether School of Business building in Albany, NY. In addition to the bricks and mortar (and state of the art technology), all of our programs will now be identified proudly as coming from the Huether School of Business. We are also pleased to announce that New York State Education Department has approved a new degree the Bachelor of Science in Economics.  While we anticipate the Huether School of Business building will be open for Fall 2012, the Economics Major is open for students now.

As Dean of the School of Business, I meet many students who are making important decisions about their college education. Since they are very concerned about being prepared for the ever-changing world of business, the business faculty at The College of Saint Rose have developed a business program that emphasizes “practical” business education and “active learning."

Sincerely,
Severin Carlson
Dean of The College of Saint Rose School of Business

School of Business Undergraduate Degree Highlights

First Year Experience:  During the first semester, all undergraduate business degree students have the opportunity to be fully involved in an “out-of-classroom experience” cast as an entrepreneur about to start a new venture. The project is not a “computer simulation,” but is a hands-on development of a real plan to start their own business. Students work closely with classmates, business faculty and real entrepreneurs from the Capital Region, getting a head start on understanding all of the career opportunities that await them.

Internship/Field Study:  Business leaders have identified “internships” as an excellent way for students to gain practical insight into career opportunities. With The College of Saint Rose located in Albany, the Capital of New York State, internship opportunities are vast. Over the last fifteen years, hundreds of Saint Rose students have participated in our innovative Internship Partnership with the Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce, where students have been matched with companies and received credit for a meaningful, job-related experience. Starting this year, all Saint Rose students majoring in Business Administration will be required to have an internship or field study experience prior to graduation.

Capstone Experience:  At Saint Rose, all business degree students have the opportunity to specialize in one or more of nine business concentrations, but during the senior year, students are brought back together in an “Integrated Business Experience.” Using in depth “case analysis,” students develop strategic management plans integrating knowledge from the business core and their concentrations. Students are required to develop professional oral and written presentations of their plans.
