Three Saint Rose Alumni Named ’40 Under 40′

Each year, the Albany Business Review selects 40 innovative and dynamic business people, under the age of 40, from a range of industries throughout the region. The award is quite competitive: This year’s nominations numbered more than 400. The Review will recognize the recipients in a special edition and at a luncheon at the Albany Capital Center on May 11.

Saint Rose alumni are no stranger to the awards, having appeared in the honorees’ ranks year after year. Recognized for the 2018 awards are:

Schuyler Bull ’10, BS/MBA, Business Administration. Owner, Fort Orange General Store
Former assistant director of the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District and director of marketing for the Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Bull is an experienced business and marketing professional as well as staunch Saint Rose supporter. “I was honored to be nominated by a Saint Rose administrator for the Albany Business Review’s ‘40 under 40’ award,” he said. “It’s a true testament to the lifelong connections that Saint Rose fosters and of the supportive community who truly care for one another as family. As an alum, I’m still proud to call Saint Rose my HOME.”

Cancelliere, who began his banking career as a vice president at HSBC in 2004, served as a vice president at First Niagara Bank before joining Pioneer Bank in 2014. He moved up the ranks there, becoming senior vice president of retail banking in February 2018. “The MBA program at The College of Saint Rose was instrumental in providing me the knowledge and insight that I would need to achieve success in the financial industry. To this day, I draw on the many important lessons learned and apply them in my current role,” he said. “I am proud to represent such an outstanding institution. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at The College of Saint Rose.”

Yanatos, whose original career plan was to become an attorney, changed direction after graduation and decided to explore her creativity through hair styling. She opened Pinup Jordan’s Mermaid Lounge in Schenectady, began specializing in rainbow-hued “mermaid hair,” and has enjoyed considerable client acclaim and media attention ever since. This summer, she will be featured in “The Look All Stars” on the national CW Television Network.

Saint Rose to Participate in Enhanced Tuition Awards Again


For the second year, The College of Saint Rose has opted in to New York State’s Enhanced Tuition Awards program, which provides up to $6,000 in tuition assistance annually to eligible in-state students who are selected for the award.

The program is for undergraduate students, and Saint Rose is home to more than 2,500 undergraduates, with 98 percent of them receiving financial aid. There are specific eligibility requirements for the ETA program, including an annual family income of $110,000 and proof of one year of New York State residency that must be met to be considered. Students apply and are selected by New York State to receive the funding. By opting into the program, Saint Rose commits to provide as much as $3,000 per student with New York State providing the balance for a maximum individual award of $6,000.

Graphic Design Students Win ‘Addy’ Awards

Eleven Saint Rose Graphic Design students were recognized with “Addy” awards, the Albany Advertising Club’s local version of the national awards bestowed by the American Advertising Federation. Competing at the local level, the students won in a wide variety of categories. The awards were announced on March 2 at Proctors in Schenectady.

Alumni in the News for April 2018

This past month, Saint Rose alumni have made the news for leadership in many areas, including biopharmaceuticals, entrepreneurship, sports management, school administration, and the Saint Rose Board of Trustees. Read about their recent accomplishments here.

Jonathan Baker ’03 (BS, Elementary Education: Pre-K-6) has been named principal of Hadley-Luzerne Elementary School. Currently an assistant principal at Queensbury High School, Baker will begin his new role in the fall. He appeared in the Glens Falls Post Star on March 21, 2018, in “Queensbury administrator selected to lead Hadley-Luzerne Elementary.”

Mary Mattes ’97 (BA, Biology) was in the news for her new position as senior vice president of biometrics and drug safety at Synteract. She appeared on March 23, 2018, in “Director of diversity and inclusion arrives at MassBio …” in Endpoints News.

Joe Milazzo G’85 (MS, Special Education) was mentioned by several news outlets for his new position as vice president of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League:

Jordan Glindmyer Yanatos ’09 (BS, Criminal Justice, Behavior, and Law) and her famous Pinup Jordan’s Mermaid Lounge will be featured on national television. This summer, Pinup Jordan will appear with host Tori Spelling on “The Look All Stars” on the CW Television Network. The news appeared on March 20, 2018, in “’Pinup Jordan’ will show true colors on national TV show” in the Schenectady Daily Gazette.
