Associate Professor
Dr. Antico holds a B.A. in Interdepartmental Studies (Communications & Music) from The College of Saint Rose, an M.S. in Educational Communications from SUNY Albany, an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science from SUNY Albany, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from UAlbany with a focus on Instructional Design and Technology. Areas of teaching have included Television and Radio Production, Emerging Technologies in Communication, Advertising, Public Relations, and Mass Media. He joined the department in 1981, was Program Coordinator from 1984—1987, Graduate Program Coordinator from 1994—1999, and Chair from 2005—2010. Recipient of the Thomas A. Cailin BrownCAILIN BROWN, Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Dr. Brown holds a B.A. from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany. Brown's research interests include citizen journalism, student produced journalism and media ethics. She coordinates student coverage of the college neighborhood for The Pine Hills blog at timesunion.com, and advises the weekly student newspaper, The Chronicle. Brown worked as a reporter at The Record in Troy, at the Capital District Business Review in Albany, and at the Times Union in Albany. She began teaching in the department in 2005

Paul ContiPAUL CONTI, M.A.
Assistant Professor
Paul Conti holds a Master of Liberal Arts Degree from SUNY Empire State and a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Fredonia. In both programs Paul’s studies centered on Communications. Prior to arriving at Saint Rose in 2005, Paul worked in local broadcasting for more than three decades. He was News Director of WNYT TV, the NBC affiliate in Albany, for 10 years and Assistant News Director for 11. He is a three-time Emmy Award nominee and a two-time winner. He is also the recipient of awards from the New York State Broadcasters Association and the New York State Associated Press. Paul remains active in local media and periodically produces TV programs as time permits. He teaches courses that deal primarily in media production.

Dr. Jin KimJIN KIM, Ph.D.
Dr. Kim earned his Ph.D. in Communication Studies from The University of Iowa, M.A. in Telecommunications from Indiana University and B.A. in Mass Communication from Yonsei University. He specializes in new media studies, critical cultural studies, research methods and communication theory.

Karen McGrathKAREN MCGRATH, Ph.D.
Professor of Communication, Department Chair
Dr. McGrath earned her B.A. in Speech from York College (CUNY), M.A. in Communication from SUNY Albany, and Ph.D. in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University (areas of concentration included philosophy of communication and interpersonal communication). Her areas of research and publication currently include media studies with a focus on issues of diversity, such as gender, culture, and sexual orientation. Began teaching in 1997, was Graduate Coordinator of the Communication’s Masters Program from 1998-2009, and is Chair of Communications.

Gary McLouth, D.A.GARY MCLOUTH, D.A.
Associate Professor--Professor Emeritus
Dr. McLouth has earned degrees from SUNY Albany (Doctor of Arts in English), Western Michigan University (M.A. in English), Syracuse University Graduate School of Education (M.A. in Social Studies Ed.), and Syracuse University (B.A. in Social Studies). Gary’s teaching interests center on undergraduate courses in magazine writing, TV journalism, public relations and internship supervision. In the Masters program he teaches script writing, interviewing, and supervises capstone projects.
Gary has authored a number of books including: Men and Abortion, co-author Shostak, (Praeger); Death and Other Frustrations, short fiction dissertation and winner of the President’s Distinguished Dissertation Award (SUNYAlbany); Natural Causes (West Main Productions). His poetry, fiction and essays have been published in a number of journals, reviews and magazines. Gary co-produces and hosts TodaysAuthors.com and has appeared as a show host and public speaker in a variety of broadcast and conference venues.
Teaching Communications at Saint Rose has allowed Gary to apply professional experiences in government PR, academic administration, journalism and the creative arts. He began teaching in the department in 1988 and retired in 2011.

Mary Alice MolgardMARY ALICE MOLGARD, M.S.
Assistant Professor
Mary Alice Molgard received her B.A. in Information Sciences (Communications) in 1975 ,from Illinois State University, and her M.S. in Communications from ISU in 1977. Her primary teaching areas are in Communications and Broadcast Law, News and Advertising Writing, and Film. Mary Alice is active in local media organizations, including Women’s Press Club and Ad Club, and is a longtime board member of the Upper Hudson Library Association. She proudly serves as a volunteer firefighter in her home community. Mary Alice began teaching at the College in 1985.

MARY MYERS, MA
Full-Time Instructor, Sprinig 2012
Mary joined the College of St. Rose in Fall 2011. Ms. Myers is a facilitative mediator and a licensed broadcaster with a background in crisis communication and sports management. Her teaching experience includes a variety of communication courses, such as Nonverbal Communication, Organizational Communication, Family Communication, Business and Professional Communication, and Public Speaking.  email

Jeannine PondozziJEANNINE PONDOZZI, Ph.D.
Associate Professor--Professor Emeritus
Dr. Pondozzi has her Ph. D from The Ohio State University. Her specialties are rhetorical analysis, writing, and research. She has taught several courses at The College of Saint Rose including communication research, the seminar in communication, group process, and Expository writing and introductory speech for the Department of English. She retired in 2011.

Rosemary O'Neill SheridanROSEMARY SHERIDAN, MA

Rosemary earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies and Master of Arts in History-Political Science at The College of Saint Rose. Rosemary’s background includes over 30 years of public relations experience in not-for-profit, education, and free-lance consulting settings. Her experience includes a wide range of PR activities such as media relations, publications and advertising copywriting and production, website management, and lobbying. Rosemary’s college teaching experience includes 15 years as an adjunct faculty member in the Saint Rose Communications Department. She teaches courses in public relations and mass media.

Lars E. Allanson - M.S. Public Administration, SUNYA; B.A. Radio/TV Production, Ithaca College; Graduate work in TV/Theater at Kansas State University| Professional work in Public Relations, Government Media Relations, Commercial Advertising, Radio/TV Broadcasting.

Margaret (Peg) Aloi--Peg Aloi holds a BA in English and Dramatic Arts from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and an MFA in English and Film Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She taught in the Visual and Media Arts Department of Emerson College from 1999 through 2009, creating over a dozen new film and media studies courses for the curriculum. She has been a contributing film critic for the Boston Phoenix since 1997.

M. Monica Bartoszek – M.S. Technical Communications, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute | B.A. English Writing Arts, State University of New York at Oswego | Professional background in Journalism. Monica is the outreach coordinator at SUNY Center for International Development managing their website, publications, public relations and social media. Teaching courses in editing and page design.

Bob Cudmore – B.A., M.A. English, Bob is a radio and television personality, newspaper columnist, teacher and public relations consultant. He has over 40 years of media experience and over 20 years as an adjunct faculty member in the Saint Rose Communications Department. He also worked eight years in media relations for the State University of New York System Administration. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English literature at Boston University. His second book is out this year, a collection of history columns about the Mohawk Valley. Currently a morning radio host in his home town of Amsterdam, N.Y., Bob has produced and narrated history documentaries for public television.

Skip Dickstein – Bachelor of Business Administration/Economics from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Professional experience includes more than 30 years award-winning work in news and sports photography. Teaching photojournalism

Joe Donahue – B.A. Public Communications, The College of Saint Rose - Joe has been a voice on the radio since he was 11. He has has worked professionally as a radio journalist and talk show host for the past 25 years. Since 1994, he has been with WAMC/Northeast Public Radio. He has won multiple national awards for his radio journalism and for his interviews with newsmakers and celebrities. Teaching radio production and interviewing.

Janielle Krawczyk - M.A. in Television/Radio/Film from Syracuse University | B.A. in Radio/Television/Film from Marist College | Background in television news, independent documentary, freelance studio work, videography & editing for clients such as WMHT and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York.

Mark LaVigne

Elizabeth (Liz) Richards--Filmmaker and video installation artist LIZ RICHARDS has worked in television and web production at WGBH in Boston, was a Cinema professor at Point Park University, and was the 2009 Women in Film and Media (Pittsburgh Chapter) Excellence in Filmmaking award recipient. Liz has had over 60 national and international screenings of her work in such places as Japan, Serbia, Germany, Sweden, Finland, and France.

Joshua R. Ritter, Ph.D.--Ritter received his doctorate in Rhetorical Theory and Criticism from the Communication department at Georgia State University. He has several publications and teaches a variety of courses from Small Group Communication to Public Speaking to A History of Rhetorical Theory. He and his wife recently moved from Colorado Springs where he taught Rhetoric and Writing, and they currently live in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Henry Skoburn – M.S. Radio & Television, Syracuse University | M.S. Urban & Regional Planning, URI | B.A. Psychology, McGill University, | Professional background in media production, advertising, and corporate communications.

Mark Sickler--Mark holds a Master of Science degree in Art Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz and a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Georgia College and State University. He has taught Art in a variety of public schools to young people for the past 31 years. Currently at Albany High School he teaches Graphic Arts, Studio Art, and Video Production Courses. Mark also teaches Digital Media Literacy in the Art Classroom for Graduate Art Education candidates at the Sage Colleges of Albany. In addition to teaching Mark is a visual artist specializing in mixed-media drawing, painting and image creation.


Colleen Thapalia – M.S. Communication, Cornell University | B.S. Journalism, New York University | Professional background in intercultural communication and management in higher education and international organizations, including service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Burundi and United Nations Volunteer in Nepal. Currently director of graduate admissions at The College of Saint Rose, spearheading international student recruitment.
