Thought, Idea, & Practice

Radio Station with studentSome wise person once said, "The media of modern thought rests on Arts and Humanities." I agree!

In the School of Arts & Humanities at the College of Saint Rose, we provide you with the opportunities to develop the potential you know you have, and tune you in to the potential you never thought you had.

In our school, we are guided by the fundamental principles of Thought, Idea, and Practice. Those fundamental principles have inspired even the most iconic of figures in the Humanities world. They inspired Philosophy graduate Mary Higgins Clark to grip us with suspenseful prose. They inspired Miles Davis and Wynton Marsalis to climb to the top of the music game. They even inspired one of our own; Saint Rose graduate in Communications, Jimmy Fallon (Class of 2009), to Late Night with NBC.

Many other masterminds have followed the principles of Thought, Idea, and Practice and have contributed to comforting and confronting the world through art, song, political leadership, and the development of a social/global conscience.

In the School of Arts & Humanities, our faculty combine theory with practice to prepare you for graduate school or employment upon graduation. This emphasis on teaching and mentoring paired with an emphasis on hands-on experience through research, internships, and study abroad, enables you to develop the skills that you will need for success in the global economy. We offer 29 undergraduate and 5 graduate degrees.

Thank you for visiting us. Please explore all of the programs and opportunities we offer, and enjoy the pages of our departments. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Guided by a historical mission, and spirit of generosity, the Hearst Foundation has made a naming gift to The College of Saint Rose for its newly renovated Center for Communications and Interactive Media, which will now be called the William Randolph Hearst Center for Communications and Interactive Media. The official naming took place on Monday, September 26, 2011 in a dedication ceremony. In addition to the Saint Rose community, local public officials were present to witness this important occasion. President Mark Sullivan welcomed everyone, and along with other College officials, praised the Hearst Foundation, as well as George R. Hearst III for their vision of supporting cutting-edge teaching and learning of Communications at the Center. As the Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, I am pleased to be working with a partner who sees learning as exploration and experimentation in academics.
