Maybe you are inspired by the idea of teaching very young children, or have always dreamed of being an elementary school teacher. Or perhaps you see yourself teaching in a middle or high school. The College of Saint Rose located in Albany, NY has teaching degree programs for each level: Adolescence Education (grades 7-12)Childhood Education (grades 1-6), and Early Childhood Education (birth-grade 2). Each program provides the education course work required for earning an initial teaching certification in New York and reciprocal states.

For Individuals with a Bachelor's Degree: Graduate Programs

If you have already earned a 4-year degree from an accredited institution and would like to use it to become a teacher, you will want to explore education graduate programs that The College of Saint Rose offers in Adolescence Education (grades 7-12)Childhood Education (grades 1-6), and Early Childhood Education (birth-grade 2). Each program provides the education course work required for earning both initial and professional teaching certification in New York and reciprocal states.

A Master's Degree Program with Options: Curriculum and Instruction

The College of Saint Rose recognizes that while teachers need to earn a Master’s Degree that includes advanced training, they also value the ability to choose options within that degree. Our new 30-credit Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction offers those options, as well as academic flexibility.
 

Seeking New Directions?

Career-Broadening Certification Extensions and Coursework

For teachers who already hold a master’s degree, but wish to earn an additional certification or simply enrich their knowledge base, The College of Saint Rose offers seven, 12-credit options that can be completed on a stand-alone basis:
 

  • 1.Second initial certification in early childhood education (birth-grade 2) for those with childhood certification 
  • 2.Second initial certification in childhood (elementary) education (grades 1-6) for those with early childhood certification 
  • 3.Grade 5-6 content area extension to current certification 
  • 4.Grade 7-9 content area extension to current certification 
  • 5.Bilingual education extension (Spanish) 
  • 6.Preparation for National Board Certification 
  • 7.In-depth study within one’s current area of certification through a wide choice of electives
