Why do you require a letter of support from my superintendent?

We require this letter of support for several reasons. First, we ask that your superintendent assign you a mentor and provide you with a shadowing experience. Also, you will be on campus a couple Fridays during the school year for classes and we want your superintendent to be aware and supportive of this. Additionally, we have found that when a candidate’s superintendent is aware of their participation in this program, it enhances their learning opportunities. Sometimes a superintendent will invite a candidate to attend a meeting or other event that might offer insight into the responsibilities of a school leader. More importantly, when a superintendent is aware of that a candidate is seeking school building leadership certification, this aids in the development of the internship experience.


Is the superintendent my mentor and do I shadow him/her?

No. Typically, the mentor is another administrator in the school district—usually the candidate’s own principal.


Can I work while I do my internship?

Yes. Our candidates maintain their full-time jobs while carrying out their internship within their school and/or district.


I am interested in School District Leadership Certification. Can I pursue this through The Call to Leadership Program?

You can pursue School District Leadership (SDL) Certification at The College of Saint Rose, but it is separate from The Call to Leadership Program. The College offers a six-credit summer academy during a three week period each summer. Once you have completed your School Building Leadership Certification course requirements, you can enroll in the SDL Summer Academy.


Can I apply for financial aid for the Call to Leadership Program?

Yes, you are eligible to apply for financial aid. Additional information can be found online.

In addition, The College also offers students a variety of payment options.

Can tuition credits earned from hosting a College of Saint Rose student teacher be applied to my bill?

Yes, you can submit them when you register for classes.
