What’s New and Next

The Week of Welcome has officially begun! And boy, it’s a good one. We’re talking first-day photo booths, lawn games, outdoor movies, trips to our favorite local businesses, and more! Head to the Calendar section for the full schedule.

Updates to Canvas: When you log into Canvas this fall, you might notice a few changes to your dashboard. OLS has created two new resource guides to help you out: Strose Success!and “Succeeding in an Online Course.” “Strose Success!” is a resource filled with info on how to use Canvas, where to find support on campus, and tips for academic success. “Succeeding in an Online Course” is there to give you tips, tricks, and strategies to succeed in any online courses you’re taking at Saint Rose. Check them out!

Let’s go, Golden Knights! The College of Saint Rose fall athletics season gets underway this week. Here are some ways to follow and support the Golden Knights:

We know you might have questions about monkeypox and how to protect yourself and others. The College is following guidance provided to us by the Albany County Department of Health and if anything changes, we will adapt with it. To learn more about what Albany County is recommending, please visit their website.

Check your COVID test’s expiration dates, please! Many at-home tests have been getting extended expiration dates – if you’re not sure if your tests have expired, Google the brand and lot number.

See the world, study abroad! Curious about the opportunities you’ll have to study abroad while you’re at Saint Rose? Come chat with Nick Battiste, assistant director of international studies, this Thursday, September 1! He’ll be tabling outside the Camelot Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be available to answer any and all of your questions.

Is your Android having trouble connecting to our wifi? We’ve got you. To connect your Android phone, follow these quick and easy instructions:

  • Go to your wireless connection screen and locate the StroseSecure network.
  • Make sure the EAP method is set to “PEAP” and your IP settings are set to DHCP before entering your Saint Rose username and password. If you’re asked for an anonymous identity, leave it blank.
  • Set your CA Certificate to “Use System Certificates.” Do not validate these certificates, and make sure your domain is set to “strose.edu.” Once those are set up, tap the option to “View More.”
  • Make sure your authentication method is set to MSCHAPV2 and that your MAC address type is set to “Phone MAC.”
  • Once you’ve done all of that, you’ll be able to connect to the network without a problem! If you’re still having trouble, contact the IT Help Desk at 518.454.2190.

Reminders

Reach Out Saint Rose is coming up! Sign up for our annual day of service on September 10. We need 400 volunteers to make it happen, so sign up today with your team, club, roommates, or just on your own to help make an impact on our community by serving our dear neighbors. We’ll be working with local organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, the Underground Railroad Project, the Red Bookshelf, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, and more! Sign up here for an available slot.

Let’s talk about your goals, Golden Knights! A few days ago, you should have received an email asking you to fill out the HEDS Student Survey. It’s important that you take a few minutes to fill it out, because your answers will help us learn what your goals for the future are and how the College can help you achieve them! The survey closes on September 9, so fill it out ASAP – it should only take five to 10 minutes to complete.

COVID-19 update for the fall: As a reminder, the College of Saint Rose is no longer requiring students or employees to receive the COVID-19 booster. The College is maintaining its requirement for students and employees to be fully vaccinated as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Students who have completed both doses of the initial vaccine series (Pfizer or Moderna or another WHO-approved vaccine or one dose of Johnson & Johnson) will be considered to have met the College’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement. Of course, if you’ve been granted a religious or medical exemption, that still stands. Read our latest COVID-19 update on our website. And don’t forget, if you test positive for COVID-19, you still have to email covidresults@strose.edu to let us know.

Download the Navigate app! Navigate is an app Saint Rose students use to successfully navigate (get it?) the ins and outs of college life, which is why you’re required to download it! This free app allows for better communication with your advisors and faculty, helps you stay on track, and serves as a one-stop shop for resources. Hot tip: Make sure you use the “Major Explorer” feature, where you can search for majors offered at Saint Rose or take a quiz to learn about what majors and careers might be a good fit for you. Learn more about Navigate on our website.

Download the RAVE Guardian app! Our No. 1 priority is your health and safety, which is why we are requiring that all of our students download RAVE Guardian, a mobile safety app. Learn more about how to download the app here

And don’t forget to sign up for RAVE Alerts: Saint Rose uses the RAVE Alert system to quickly communicate emergency information, like weather alerts, closings, delays, and other serious situations, to our students, faculty, and staff. If you haven’t already, make sure you sign up to receive the alerts through Banner.

Don’t forget to take the Math Placement test! If you need to take the exam, testing options are open for the first week of the semester via Navigate. Appointments need to be made 24 hours in advance in order to ensure you can access the Canvas course for the placement. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Matthew Woods at woodsm@strose.edu

Content tutoring starts soon: The first day of tutoring for the fall semester is next Monday, September 12. Tutoring schedules will be posted to the website and sent to your professors by the end of this week. You’ll be able to drop in for tutoring OR sign up for an appointment on Navigate.

Bookstore news! Be sure to check out the bookstore, which opened under new management this summer. And if you’re picking up online orders when you arrive on campus, head to Standish Rooms A and B in the Events and Athletics Center (EAC). This will cut down on crowding in the bookstore itself. Online book pickup will be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. August 19 through September 6.

Speaking of the bookstore, get your Fall 2022 bookstore vouchers! At the beginning of each semester, students who have a pending or actual account overpayment may apply for a bookstore voucher. This voucher is considered to be an advance on a pending refund and may be used for books and educational supplies at our Campus Bookstore. Vouchers will be available on our website until September 16. Questions about how book vouchers work? Email bursar@strose.edu

Need to update your class schedule? The LAST DAY to add or drop classes for Fall 2022 is Friday, September 2. New and current students are able to request and make changes to their class schedules until then. The Office of Academic Advising will be able to assist students on a walk-in basis during the first week of classes. You can find them on the third floor of Saint Joseph Hall.

Important dates to remember:

  • September 12: Last day to apply for pass/fail grading for full semester classes.
  • September 30: Last day to withdraw from first half-semester classes.

It’s never too early to think about your career goals, and the Career Center is here to help! They have a robust and exciting schedule of Career Education and Employment Events for the 2022-23 school year, including Resume Critique Week from September 12 to 16 in the Career Center, plus the Fall 2022 Job and Internship Fair on September 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium! For the full list of this year’s Career Center events, head to their website.
