The College of Saint Rose Music Industry Program
All prospective music majors must audition in order to be considered for admission into the Music Department.
The Saint Rose Music Industry Program is housed in the brand new Center for Communications and Interactive Media (CCIM), a state-of -the art facility for audio and video recording.
Individual attention is the main difference between the Saint Rose music industry program and the programs at other colleges. Our comprehensive curriculum and small teacher to student ratio gives students ample opportunities for hands-on production work in the studios as well as opportunities to work with real clients in various roles.
The other attribute that sets our Music Industry Program apart from other music industry programs is that we have the same audition and music performance requirements for music industry majors that we have for students in our other music degree programs. Besides having first-rate engineering, business and computer skills, our graduates are also excellent musicians.
We believe that you must become an accomplished musician to insure success in the music industry because you will be working with excellent musicians throughout your career. Our graduates’ superior musicianship sets them apart from graduates of typical college music industry programs.
What Will I Study?
Our curriculum is similar to those at many other schools and includes courses in songwriting, arranging, recording engineering, record production, Pro Sound Tools, MIDI, music business, artist management and music law. The final exit requirement at the end of the senior year for students in the music industry program is a full-length album of material
they have composed, arranged, rehearsed, engineered, mixed and mastered-a comprehensive capstone project that reflects their achievement. They also function as artist managers and record producers for real clients for two
semesters as part of course requirements.
Another unique feature of our Music Industry Program is the fact that our curriculum includes three areas: technology, music business and commercial music (songwriting, conducting, arranging, etc.). We believe our
graduates need to be well versed in each of these areas because most employment opportunities involve crossover and multitasking in several areas of the music industry.
Saint Rose music industry majors are members of The Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA), an organization comprised of college and university students with an interest in the music and entertainment industries. Students can gain both experience and the opportunity to network with industry professionals through local, regional, and national activities and events.
