Professional Experience

Sean McClowry is currently Associate Professor of Music Industry, teaching courses in record production, analog recording, songwriting & composition, music business, and double bass. Sean is active as a music producer, composer, songwriter, and performing artist in both popular and classical music worlds. Specializing in historic methods of recording and music production, Sean’s area of research is Les Paul and Mary Ford, their groundbreaking recordings, and technical advancements as recording artists. Sean spends lots of time restoring and using vintage recording equipment, including record cutters and Ampex reel to reel tape machines. Sean’s work with this medium is part academic and part obsession. He is currently working on a book about Les Paul.

At Saint Rose, Sean leads a student-run record label, production and music publishing company, Rose Record Label Group (www.roserecordlabel.com). Structured as a pre-professional company and co-curricular experience, the purpose for RRLG is to provide students with an academic microcosm of a global music industry where we may sign artists and bands, create new music, test new and historic models, perform research, and have a platform for promotion and distribution. The mission of RRLG is to help launch the careers of the artists and professionals it represents.

Sean is a Harvey Fellow and holds a Ph.D in composition from Princeton University, MM in performance from Yale School of Music, and a BM in composition from Peabody Conservatory.
