Reach Out Saint Rose Marks 23rd Year

More than 800 students, employees, and alumni participated in the 23rd annual Reach Out Saint Rose, a day of service in the Capital Region on September 8.

President Carolyn J. Stefanco opened the event by asking students to think about how fortunate they are to have the opportunity to pursue higher education:

“Today is a day of celebration – of your passion, of your energy, and of your ability to make a difference. It is also a day when we should think about those who are not able to seek the opportunity of higher education, and especially those who are not able to be with us today. Reflect on the millions of people around the world who are not able to attend colleges or universities due to poverty, political violence, or discrimination based on gender, race, religion, or ethnicity. I want us to especially think of the many students who were accepted and intended to enroll at Saint Rose for this Fall semester, and were so excited to come here, but whose visas were not approved, or whose visa appointments were delayed. It is my hope that if we continue to speak up for the power of education to create global understanding, these students will be able to join us in the future.”

Sheng Wu G’10: Taking His Saint Rose Experience to LinkedIn

The next time you log on to LinkedIn, think of Sheng Wu G’10, who earned his MBA at Saint Rose. Behind the scenes, he and his team are busy constructing the human-resources IT systems that LinkedIn’s recruiters use to find the best talent for their international workforce.

“I’m helping to build and implement innovative solutions in tools that provide the best experience for our candidates and recruiters,” says Wu, who started in April 2018 as a systems analyst in LinkedIn’s Talent Services.

Saint Rose prepared him well for the demands of his future employers. “The courses at Saint Rose were relevant to real-world lessons, whereas my previous degrees were theory-based,” says Wu. “The experience with real-world situations – especially in HR, where you have to deal with different laws and regulations – was valuable.”
