More than 800 students, employees, and alumni participated in the 23rd annual Reach Out Saint Rose, a day of service in the Capital Region on September 8.

President Carolyn J. Stefanco opened the event by asking students to think about how fortunate they are to have the opportunity to pursue higher education:

“Today is a day of celebration – of your passion, of your energy, and of your ability to make a difference. It is also a day when we should think about those who are not able to seek the opportunity of higher education, and especially those who are not able to be with us today. Reflect on the millions of people around the world who are not able to attend colleges or universities due to poverty, political violence, or discrimination based on gender, race, religion, or ethnicity. I want us to especially think of the many students who were accepted and intended to enroll at Saint Rose for this Fall semester, and were so excited to come here, but whose visas were not approved, or whose visa appointments were delayed. It is my hope that if we continue to speak up for the power of education to create global understanding, these students will be able to join us in the future.”
