Psychology Research at Saint Rose

Research experience is an integral part of undergraduate education in the Psychology Department and is an ongoing source of scholarship for a number of the Psychology faculty. Students are exposed to the scientific method used in Psychological Science in their Foundations of Psychology courses (PSY 110 and 111) where they read published research reports and take an active role as participants in psychological research. Midway through their coursework, students enroll in Research Methods I (PSY 295) and Research Methods II (PSY 299) which provide them with the statistical and methodological tools to conduct their own research projects, a component of the Research Methods II course. As seniors, Psychology majors may select the Senior Seminar: Research in Psychology (PSY 498) course as their capstone experience where they independently design and complete a major research project. In support of student and faculty research projects, the Department of Psychology is the home of the Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory for research with both human and nonhuman (rat) animals. The Psychology Department also shares the new Behavioral and Social Science Laboratory with the Sociology and Social Work Departments for research with human subjects. Pictures of these labs and descriptions of the available equipment may be accessed by selecting the laboratory links on the right side of the page.
