New Student and Family Orientation is designed to prepare students for the start of their experience at Saint Rose! Required for incoming undergraduate students, you will gain a better understanding of academic expectations, student life opportunities, and meet other future students and current Golden Knights!
As a new student, this is an exciting time filled with nervous anticipation. We encourage you to have an open mind, embrace opportunities to meet new friends, try something new, and always ask questions.
Campus Safety – A Partnership for Parents and Families:
Our primary focus is to provide a safe experience for Saint Rose students. For parents and families, learn more about the federal and state regulations that address sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking, and the programming that is offered to educate and train the campus community around these issues. Students will receive a more in-depth training at Orientation.

Getting Connected
Using technology is such an integral part of your college experience. Listen to Technology Support Services Manager Rachel Ramsey and Senior Network Administrator – Security Systems Erin Farnam as they walk you through important information related to online learning, infrastructure, and ITS Support.
Library Services
Every single student frequents the Neil Hellman Library, either to borrow books, use the computer labs, meet up with a study group, or use the online databases. Don’t miss this informative video by Head of Reference and Instruction and Outreach Kate Moss!
Financial Aid
Our Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid Steve Dwire (AKA the Financial Aid King) and Assistant Devin Collins will give you the rundown on all things financial aid and the next steps you should take before you step foot on campus.
Student ID
Your Student ID is an important piece to the College puzzle. You will need it to access buildings, use campus printers, and eat on campus. Don’t miss this video that explains how you can upload your photo online and access your Student ID!
Campus Bookstore
Don’t wait halfway through the semester to find out where the Campus Bookstore is located! This video will address how to rent and/or purchase books and all the other fun items our store provides.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! In order for The College of Saint Rose to best meet your needs as an incoming student, you need to attend one overnight session. It provides opportunities for you to meet other students, register for classes, learn about the campus and the many opportunities it has to offer, find out where to go for help, meet with faculty and staff, and have a chance to become acquainted with our residential halls and campus.
We do offer specific presentations and activities for family members where they will have an opportunity to learn about their students’ academic path, meet other families, and learn about the different opportunities and areas of assistance on campus for their student.
There is a limit of two guests per student. While it is not required for families to attend orientation, we highly encourage it. If you have any questions about this, please contact us at orientation@strose.edu.
New Student and Family Orientation is open to all first-year students with date offerings on select days throughout the summer. Please select the date that best fits your schedule.
We offer transfer express days- these sessions are much shorter but only for transfer students.
Our late August session is held a couple of days before move-on; this session is encouraged for anyone who is traveling from out-of state or is international.
Please note that orientation for students is an overnight experience ( 1 full day, sleep in our residence hall, and the second day is half a day. Check-in begins on day one at 8:00 am and concludes with fun activities at 11 pm. The second day begins at 8am with a check out of 1:00pm.
Family orientation will be a two-day program with the first day starting at 8:00am and concluding at 4:30pm. The second day, begins at 9am and concludes at 12:30pm. Families looking to stay overnight will need to book their hotel within the Albany area. Information of afflicted hotels will be provided soon.
A customized schedule of events will be provided when you arrive to orientation.
New students will stay overnight in Lima Hall. Family guests may make overnight arrangements with one of the many hotels in the Albany area.
We recommend casual and comfortable shoes and clothing. We’ll move around campus throughout the day and want you to be as comfortable as possible. While snow in the winter can be a great here in Albany, NY, you may also want to check the weather prior to attending so you can dress appropriately.
Yes, meals are provided. Please see the example schedules.
As a New Transfer Student, you have the option to participate in the overnight orientation program or you can register for a Transfer Express Day, a 1/2 day session on campus.
Yes! During orientation you will attend an academic advising session where you will review your schedule and other pertinent academic procedures you will need to know in your first year. Transfer students will meet 1:1 with their faculty advisors.
The Albany International Airport (ALB) is approximately 20 minutes from The College of Saint Rose. When scheduling flights, please keep in mind your travel time to and from The College of Saint Rose and the Albany International Airport.
We recommend parking in Lot 5: Lima Parking (Entrance at 919 Madison Ave. or Lot 2: LaSalle Lot (Entrance: 415 Western Avenue). Parking permits are not required for your visit and student Orientation Leaders will be positioned throughout campus to help direct you.
We will provide you with linens and a bath towel to all students. We recommend you bring the following:
Pillow, blanket, Water and Snacks
Pajamas, A change of clothes for Day Two, Shower
Shoes (flip flops, slides),
Toiletries and Personal Hygiene items:
Toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss
Hair-Styling tools
Soap and shampoo, and deodorant
Orientation is a short visit, a sneak peek of what living on campus will be like. Try to pack only the necessities as move-in will be when you want to pack everything for your new home away from home.
