COVID-19 update: As the semester moves forward and more events are happening indoors, the College is continuing to monitor COVID-19 transmission rates. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) rates transmission levels by county in each state on a weekly basis. At this time, Albany County has shifted from Medium to High transmission. Currently, the College has two reported active cases of COVID-19. We encourage you to follow the CDC’s recommendations for those living in counties with a High transmission level. These measures are not mandated but are highly recommended:

  • Wear a mask indoors in public
  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
  • Get tested for COVID if you have symptoms
  • Take additional precautions if you, your friends, or family members are at high risk for severe illness.

If you missed our clinic last Thursday to receive the COVID-19 Bivalent booster or you are looking to receive your flu shot, you can schedule yours with a local pharmacy. We’ll also be hosting a flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine clinic on campus on November 2 in Saint Joseph Hall Auditorium. Sign up here to get one or both of your shots. Stay safe and healthy, Saint Rose!

POV: You just transferred to Saint Rose. Transfer students, we want to know how your first few months as Golden Knights are going! Send an email to marketing@strose.edu if you’re interested in being featured on our Instagram during National Transfer Student Week.

May 2023 grads, listen up! This is your friendly reminder that online degree applications for those intending to graduate in May are due this Friday, October 15. You’ll find the degree application here – don’t procrastinate!

Important training for active shooter situations: The Albany Police Department is providing two training sessions for responding to an active shooter on Wednesday, October 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Saint Joseph Hall Auditorium. Saint Rose students and employees are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.

The Saint Rose Gospel Choir is back! If you’re interested in joining, come to their first interest meeting of the year on Wednesday, October 12, at 4:30 p.m. in the basement of the Interfaith Sanctuary. If you can’t make it but still want to learn more, email Joan Horgan at horganj@strose.edu

Help our far away neighbors in need: The Offices of Spiritual Life and Community Service are collecting school supplies, baby stuff, hygiene supplies, and batteries to be shipped down to Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Final plans are in the works for collecting donations for Puerto Rico as well – stay tuned for more information.

So, you’ve got a major…why not add a minor? The Office of Academic Advising will be hosting a fair for students to learn more about available minors on Monday, October 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Standish Rooms A&B of the EAC. Students will have an opportunity to meet with faculty from the schools of math and science, business, and arts and humanities to discuss how a minor could be used to supplement their undergraduate degree.

A great opportunity for communications (and marketing) students: The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is hosting its first in-person Digital Media Summit since 2019, and PRSA is holding it at Saint Rose! The summit will cover TikTok, podcasting, and influencer marketing. Plus, you’ll get a chance to do some networking! The summit will be held on Friday, October 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is free for students – sign up here.

Can you tell a scary story in two sentences? The clock struck midnight, it was officially October 18. A shower of regret washes over me, for I know I have missed the chance to win an Amazon tablet in the 2 Sentence Spooky Story contest. Don’t be scared, you still have a week to enter for a chance to win an Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet! Submissions can be made in the Writing Center, library, or online!

Learn more about author Michelle Alexander: Find out more about the bestselling author and social justice advocate and her work on the library’s website before she visits campus on Tuesday.

Speaking of Michelle Alexander … the October 11 discussion with the author is all filled up! If you’re still interested in watching the conversation live, you can join us at the Interfaith Sanctuary to watch the livestream from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Want to watch it from the comfort of your dorm (or apartment)? Tune into the livestream on our YouTube channel at 7 p.m. October 11.

Get to know our new Title IX Coordinator: Last week, you got an email from Kateeka Harris, Saint Rose’s new Title IX Coordinator. In case you need a reminder, Title IX is the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination at federally funded institutions. That can mean discriminatory treatment in educational programs or activities, including sexual harassment, or sexual or interpersonal violence. Kateeka wants to hear from all of you, whether you have questions, comments, or concerns. We hope you’ll join her at her second Town Hall Listening Session on October 18 at 7 p.m. – the session will be held on Zoom.

Clean out your closet for the GK Shop: Saint Rose’s very own thrift shop is looking for donations! Bring your gently used clothing to the basement of the Sanctuary. The GK Shop will be holding a FREE Closet Clean Out thrift shop on October 19 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Standish Room (EAC).

The Neil Hellman Library is hiring! If you qualify for work study, the library wants to hear from you! Inquire at the circulation desk for more details.

Join the Saint Rose Cross Country team! The Saint Rose men’s and women’s cross country teams are looking for students to join their team! Whether you competed in cross country in high school, enjoy running for fun, or are looking for a chance to become a collegiate student-athlete, cross country is a great opportunity to represent the College in the NCAA. All undergraduate and first-year graduate students are welcome! If you’re interested, please contact Coach Jones at jonesn@strose.edu, or come say hi in the XCTF Office in EAC Basement 019.
