Professional Experience

Dr. Francis has taught percussion, drum set, and directed the St. Rose Percussion Ensemble since 2016. He co-directed the percussion program at The University of Texas at San Antonio for ten years prior to joining the St. Rose faculty.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Francis teaches a wide variety of percussion instruments, both classical and contemporary, as well as drum set styles of all sorts. He founded and directs the College of St. Rose Percussion Ensemble, and also teaches ear training and sight singing.

Research/Creative Works

Dr. Francis’ extensive performance experience includes dates with the San Antonio Symphony, San Antonio Opera, Victoria Bach Festival Orchestra, Austin Symphony Orchestra, Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra, Albany Pro Musica, Glimmerglass Festival, and Albany Symphony, in addition to a multitude of chamber ensembles such as the American Repertory Ensemble, Revel, SOLI Chamber Ensemble, and he is a regularly featured artist at the Austin Chamber Music Center. Equally sought after for his drum set work, Dr Francis’ jazz projects have seen him featured at clubs and festivals throughout the US and Canada, including performances at Carnegie Hall, The Apollo Theatre, and dates with Chuck Lamb, Eric Alexander, Doc Watkins, Joe Magnarelli, John Stowell, and Scott Robinson. He regularly presents percussion clinics and workshops with support from Yamaha, Vic Firth, Zildjian cymbals, and Remo percussion, whose products he endorses.
