Professional Experience

Dr. David Bebe serves as the director of the Saint Rose Symphony Orchestra and Saint Rose Chamber Orchestra, the String Program coordinator, and the Instructor of Violoncello. An active guest conductor and clinician, Dr. Bebe has worked with professional orchestras and youth orchestras throughout the United States. Prior to teaching at The College of Saint Rose, he served as the director of the Broward Symphony Orchestra, the Clark Chamber Players, and was associate conductor for the Frost Symphony Orchestra in Miami, Florida.

An active performer, David performs chamber music regularly on the Premiere Performances Concert Series with the Saint Rose Camerata. He has been a soloist with the Miami Bach Society Orchestra, Project Copernicus, and the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts. Dr. Bebe gave the Florida premiere of Steve Reich’s Cello Counterpoint, with the composer present. He recently released a recording of Michael White’s “Sonata in One Movement for Violoncello and Piano,” a work he premiered with pianist Dr. Young Kim at the Julliard School.

Teaching Interests

As a string teacher, Dr. Bebe has been on the faculties of the Indiana University String Academy, the String Academy of Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Young Musicians and Artists Festival in Oregon, the Gem State String Boot Camp at Idaho State University, and is co-founder of the Academy for Strings in Albany, New York. His Doctoral Essay, “A Logical and Comprehensive Sequence of Skills for Teaching Young Children the Cello,” includes a three-volume sequential cello method.

David Bebe has led string ensembles from The College of Saint Rose to perform in New York City at Lincoln Center (Avery Fisher Hall) and Chicago, where they participated in master classes with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. During the month of July, Dr. Bebe serves as the music director, conductor and cello teacher for Saint Rose’s exciting Pre-College Experience Music Program, a two-week summer music program for high school students.
