Changing the Lives of Saint Rose Students--One Gift at a Time

"The College of Saint Rose is an institution that has experienced outstanding growth in enrollment, academic programs and campus facilities in the past decade. However, these accomplishments would not be possible without your gift to Saint Rose; it is an investment in our future. It can change a student’s life by guaranteeing vital financial aid, ensure that a gifted professor chooses to teach at the College or help build state-of-the-art facilities that foster academic, spiritual and physical growth. Each gift supports our mission to cultivate the talents of our students in a diverse learning community and expand their educational opportunities through engagement with the urban environment."

SAINT ROSE ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Madalyn Parnas `10

BA Music, BA French
Concert Violinist
Royal Academy of Music
London, UK

Madalyn ParnasMadalyn Parnas has firmly established her place on today’s concert stage having gained attention for her unique and comprehensive artistry. Easily recognized for her inimitable sound and style, she is sought after as both a gifted soloist and consummate chamber musician. Madalyn has performed nearly fifty times as guest soloist with orchestra and concertized with the great artist Peter Serkin in the Parnas/Serkin Trio. She has earned several enthusiastic reviews in the New York Times. Over her short career, Madalyn has taken numerous top prizes in solo violin, piano, and voice competitions.

In addition to her thriving solo career, Madalyn has also cultivated a successful life-long performing partnership with her sister, cellist Cicely Parnas, as duo parnas. The sister string duo earned early recognition winning 1st prize in the International Chamber Music Competition at Carnegie Hall. Their first two albums received international recognition and Gare du Nord was named on Gene Gaudette’s “Top Ten New Releases of 2010.” The duo is presently concentrating on 21st century music, performing and recording duos written by award-winning composers Lera Auerbach, William Bolcom, Paul Moravec, and Charles Wuorinen, among others, as they prepare for the release of their third CD, In Real Time.

In 2012, Madalyn was selected as a Marshall Scholar, receiving a prestigious award from the British Government given to students who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership potential. Madalyn was one of 36 chosen as 2012 Marshall Scholars. Currently Madalyn is attending the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studies with world renowned violinist and pedagogue György Pauk. Prior to this award, Madalyn completed an Artist Diploma with Jaime Laredo at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

Madalyn has warm reflections on her time at The College of Saint Rose:“I grew up during those special years at my wonderful alma mater, where I took great strides academically, musically, professionally, and personally. I thrived on the intense academic demands of the music industry program, learning the business and technical aspects of being a 21st century musician, and I also completed the comprehensive liberal arts core curriculum while meeting my personal goal of studying French and continuing my violin studies with James Buswell at New England Conservatory. All this I did amidst the wonderful community of Saint Rose, which was simultaneously nurturing and challenging. This small school provided me with all the great ideas and resources I have needed to meet the demands of the Artist Diploma program at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music as well as to be recognized as a 2012 Marshall Scholar on my way to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London.”
