Welcome!

Do you have a passion for helping people?
Are you interested in gaining the knowledge to help you become a great counselor?
Is it your purpose in life to work with children or adults in a school, community or college counseling setting?

If so, then one of our graduate programs in counseling may be right for you!

The Counseling program at The College of Saint Rose prepares counseling professionals for work in school, community or college settings. You can choose from one of three concentrations:

School Counseling
Mental Health Counseling: Community, and
Mental Health Counseling: College.

All three concentrations lead to the M.S. in Education degree. These respective concentrations prepare counselors for provisional certification as school counselors or licensed mental health counselors in New York State.

We also offer certificate programs in school counseling.

Why a Counseling degree from Saint Rose may be right for you

There are many qualities that differentiate the Saint Rose graduate program in counseling from similar programs at other institutions:

  • the program strongly emphasizes the practical application of course work through required internships
  • small class sizes allow students to benefit from a knowledgeable and experienced faculty
  • multicultural issues and perspectives regarding race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, class, and disability are integrated into all course work
  • all counseling faculty members have work experience in the counseling field

When students graduate from our program, they are proficient in a variety of core areas: assessment, counseling theory and practice, human development, and research. They are especially skilled in serving the needs of a specific population be it with children, adolescents, college students, or adults.

The Master of Science in Education degree is the entry-level degree for professional counselors, and is essential for certification, licensure, and employment in community, school, or college settings. Many counseling graduates secure employment prior to graduation and many are employed within six months.

Students interested in a less clinical counseling program who are still interested in working with college students may want to examine the College Student Services Adminstration degree.
