ABOUT THIS SCHOLARSHIP

The Honorable Richard J. Conners Memorial Scholarship is a competitive scholarship that recognizes the legacy of voluntary community service as demonstrated by the late public servant and community leader. Offered at The College of Saint Rose, the scholarship was created and is funded by contributions from former colleagues and friends of Assemblyman Conners. The selection of the Scholarship winner is made by the RJC Scholarship Selection Committee.

For the 2022-23 academic year, the Committee is offering two (2) scholarships, each in the amount of $5,000. The monetary award is to be credited toward the student’s tuition. To be considered for this scholarship, a student must meet the eligibility requirements and complete the procedure listed below. All materials submitted will be retained by the Committee and not returned to the applicant.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Full-time sophomore or junior at The College of Saint Rose
  • US citizen & New York state resident
  • Participate in Qualified Community Service, defined as: Volunteer work in an educational, social, political, charitable, or community activity;
    The volunteer work cannot be in a College of Saint Rose-sponsored activity, nor be college credit-bearing or monetarily compensated;
    The volunteer work should be of approximately 15 hours per month, for at least 12 months within the two years preceding student’s application.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Student may self-nominate or be nominated by someone from the community (such as: college professor or a member of a community group).
  2. Student must complete the Application Form.
  3. Application must also include a Letter of Reference (for self-nomination) or Nominator’s Statement (for nomination by someone from the community). The Letter or Statement must address the student-applicant’s contribution to the community and how it reflects the spirit of service demonstrated by the Honorable Richard J. Conners (read his biography).
  4. Student-applicant must submit a personal presentation on how their work in the community reflects the values and traditions of the Honorable Richard J. Conners. The format of the presentation is the student’s choice – written, audio, visual, video.
  5. The Application Form and other application materials may be submitted digitally or hard copy and must be received by the Committee by March 15, 2022.   6. The RJC Scholarship Selection Committee will review and rank all completed applications and may interview the top five (5) applicants.
  7. Student-applicants will be notified of the Committee’s final decision by May 1, 2022.
