When the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex opened in 2010 it was the pride of Division II athletics, with a new turf field for Golden Knights soccer and lacrosse, and new fields for baseball and softball.

After 13 years, the turf of the Dr. R. Mark and Kathleen Sullivan Field had seen a lot of action over its lifetime:

  • Our women’s soccer played in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in the 2022 season.
  • As a national powerhouse, the women’s soccer team qualifies to host NCAA Tournament Regional matches.
  • Men’s soccer played a season that earned the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament bid.
  • A women’s lacrosse program was added in 2020 and is already showing success on the field.
  • And countless Albany children have had a safe place to play in the summer through youth recreational programs.

Hours of competitive playing took their toll on the turf. Thankfully, generous donor support, particularly from the City of Albany and Albany County, allowed us to replace it in July 2023. But our campaign is not over!

We are almost there! The new field has been rededicated and The Golden Knights are already competing on the new turf.

Your gift today will put us over the finish line of this campaign, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and competitive experience for players and spectators! Thank you!

The campaign covers:
  • Replacement of the turf field
  • Other required improvements to enhance the player and spectator experience

The Goal:
Raise $600,000 for turf field replacement and basic facility upgrades at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex.

All of our student-athletes deserve the tools they need to be successful and win championships. A new turf field is critical to that.

Our student-athletes represent the Golden Knight Way in all they do on the field, in the classroom and within the community. Women’s soccer is taking us on another thrilling postseason run with one goal in mind– a back-to-back NCAA Tournament final appearance – and this time, a national championship to add to our 2011 national title.

Our men’s soccer team qualified for their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. And our men’s and women’s lacrosse teams are geared up for breakout seasons this spring.”

Sullivan Field is our program’s home field. It is near and dear to our hearts because it took tremendous effort to build and carries the beloved namesake of former President R. Mark and his lovely wife Kathy. The Sullivans have been very involved in our program traveling through the NCAA Tournament to many national championships and are regularly on the sideline watching games.

The field turf surface has been down for more than a decade. Replacement of the surface is essential to the continued success of our program. We are very committed to supporting this initiative in the weeks and months ahead."
