April 20 through the 22 will be a great few days for students hunting internship and job opportunities, as well as employers seeking outstanding candidates.

The Career Center will host an etiquette dinner to help students learn the finer points of dining at professional events on April 20 at 5 p.m. in Saint Joseph Hall Auditorium. Then, internship- and job-seekers can meet with as many as 40 prospective employers representing all types of industries and organizations at the Golden Knights Job Fair on April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

“We’ve been working with students – talking about how they appear professionally, appropriate dress code, effective communication, and networking skills.” said Sharon Edwards-Grant, interim associate director of career services at Saint Rose.

At a smaller fair on-campus last month, a cybersecurity major impressed a local firm so much, the student landed a paid summer internship, just one of the many positive outcomes.

Education majors and alumni should get their resumes ready for April 22 when the Education Expo returns to Saint Rose after a long hiatus, where it was held at other locations. More than 40 schools and school districts will be represented at the expo, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The event is a great place to make connections for anyone who intends to be a teacher, administrator, social worker, speech pathologist, school counselor, school psychologist, teaching assistant, or substitute teacher.

Saint Rose is the top trainer of teachers and administrators in New York State, granting more advanced certificates, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s degrees in the field of education than any other college or university.

“This is the time for teaching. There’s a big demand,” Edwards-Grant said. “Folks are retiring, but at the same time, job seekers need effective strategies to make an impact and stand out.”

Students and employers can still register for the fairs. Head to the Golden Knights Job Fair page for more information on that event, and the Education Expo page for details on how to participate. Students seeking information on how to sign up for the etiquette dinner still have time to join. They should sign up through the HireStrose site
