The College of Saint Rose has been such an instrumental part of the community for 100 years, and our community is not letting our centennial go by without its good wishes.

Recently, the College received proclamations, resolutions, or citations from New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York State Sen. Betty Little, who is also a member of the Saint Rose Class of 1962, and Sen. Neil Breslin, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy, the Mayor of the City of Albany Kathy Sheehan, and the Albany Common Council.

State of New York
WHEREAS, the Empire State is proud to acknowledge significant milestones in the history of respected institutions that have improved the lives of our citizens and enriched the fabric of New York; this occasion presents such a moment with the opportunity to commemorate the centennial anniversary of The College of Saint Rose and its unwavering commitment to empowering students to become productive adults, critical thinkers, and motivated, caring citizens; and
WHEREAS, known for their dedication to unity amongst all people, The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet founded The College of Saint Rose in Albany in 1920; and
WHEREAS, from its beginning, while building on a liberal arts curriculum, the College emphasized the professional training of teachers for which it is still renowned today; in the early years, that emphasis extended to help prepare women for business and other professions; and
WHEREAS, the College first admitted men in 1946 when it opened its evening division for returning World War II Veterans and continues to promote service to Veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families; and
WHEREAS, now a progressive, independent academic institution, the College offers a demanding educational experience with wide-ranging liberal arts and professional programs for students from all religious and cultural backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, all New Yorkers are proud to join in congratulating The College of Saint Rose on celebrating its 100th anniversary this year – looking back at a century of excellence in higher education and looking ahead to many more years of success in helping students develop their intellectual capabilities, while cultivating their creative and spiritual gifts;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby confer this Special Citation upon
THE COLLEGE OF SAINT ROSE
with congratulations and gratitude for 100 years of providing students with a diverse learning community that fosters integrity, independence, and mutual respect.

LEGISLATIVE PROCLAMATION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York
WHEREAS, New York State’s commitment to education is unparalleled; its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educational professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring pursuit of excellence in higher education for the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, to be celebrated at its Centennial Founder’s Day on Tuesday, September 22, 2020; and
WHEREAS, On September 22, 1920, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet founded The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, The College of Saint Rose emphasized the professional training of teachers for which it is renowned, along with a diverse offering of liberal arts majors and programs; in the early years, that emphasis expanded to prepare women for business and other professions; and
WHEREAS, In 1946, men were first admitted as the College opened its evening division for returning World War II veterans and the graduate school three years later; in 1969, The College of Saint Rose became fully coeducational; and
WHEREAS, From those humble beginnings, The College of Saint Rose grew into a progressive, independent college dedicated to providing students from all religious and cultural backgrounds with a rigorous educational experience and the opportunity to cultivate their creative and spiritual gifts; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, its diverse learning community fosters integrity, interdependence, and mutual respect; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, The College of Saint Rose continues to embrace the Sisters of St. Joseph’s tenet to “love thy dear neighbor” and strives to instill the value of community service and leadership in its students; and
WHEREAS, The success of The College of Saint Rose is in direct correlation to the efforts of its faculty and staff, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, Today, under the visionary guidance of Interim President Marcia J. White, The College of Saint Rose truly stands proud and prominent, and is an integral part of the City of Albany and the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, The College of Saint Rose may look back with pride upon its humble beginnings, find just satisfaction in its purposeful growth, and hold true of purpose in its dedication to serving the educational needs of its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The College of Saint Rose, noting the propriety of its goals, the constancy of its commitment and the significance of its accomplishments; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Marcia J. White, Interim President, The College of Saint Rose.

Proclamation Honoring The College of Saint Rose on its 100th anniversary
Whereas, it is incumbent upon us to take time to honor and recognize those organizations which have dedicated themselves to excellence and providing our future leaders with high quality educations; and

Whereas, this year marks an auspicious occasion in which The College of Saint Rose celebrates an incredible one hundred years of being an indispensable part of the social fabric of the City of Albany, Albany County and the Capital Region; and The College of Saint Rose has never wavered from its original mission established by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, to prepare students not only for rewarding careers, but also prepare them for the trials and tribulations life has to offer; and

Whereas, the founding principles of The College of Saint Rose, those of tolerance and acceptance of all religions, creeds, cultures, races and nationalities, are consistent with the highest values promoted by Albany County and the entire State of New York every day; and

Whereas, whether your studies are in the undergraduate degree programs or master’s degree programs offered by the four schools of The College of Saint Rose, this institution of higher learning provides its students with the knowledge and skills to instill real, long-lasting change in the world for future generations; and

Proclaim, that Albany County and its residents honor The College of Saint Rose on its centennial anniversary celebration.

WHEREAS, this year marks the 100th anniversary of The College of Saint Rose – an important milestone for this venerable institution; and
WHEREAS, The College of Saint Rose is a highly regarded higher educational institution in the Capital Region of New York State that has opened the door to higher education for thousands of local residents; and
WHEREAS, The College is a dedicated community partner with a proud history of service to the community, with students and staff volunteering at numerous Capital Region nonprofit and service organizations; and
WHEREAS, The College contributes significantly to the educational, cultural and economic vitality of the Capital Region, and the achievements of the students, alumni, faculty and staff of Saint Rose inspire pride in the Capital Region community and beyond.

CONGRATULATING THE COLLEGE OF SAINT ROSE ON ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, 2020 marks the centennial anniversary of The College of Saint Rose – an important milestone for this respected institution; and
WHEREAS, The College of Saint Rose was founded on September 22, 1920, by The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet as a Roman Catholic school for women, with an inaugural class of 15 students and today has more than 4,000 students from all religious and cultural backgrounds, who hail from 39 states and 70 countries; and
WHEREAS, The College of Saint Rose is a highly regarded higher educational institution in the Capital Region of New York State that has opened the door to higher education for thousands of residents; and
WHEREAS, the College contributes significantly to the educational, cultural and economic vitality of the Pine Hills neighborhood, the City of Albany, and the Greater Capital Region, and the achievements of the students, alumni, faculty, and staff of Saint Rose inspire pride in our community and beyond; and
WHEREAS, we wish The College of Saint Rose many more years of success and look forward to seeing what the future holds for this venerable institution;
