ALBANY (June 5, 2017) — The College of Saint Rose now offers a graduate degree in business analytics that will equip students with one of the most difficult-to-find and sought-after skills in the job market today.

The new master’s degree in business analytics is an intensive program that teaches students to analyze data and then use it to shape decision-making in the business world. A 2017 Computer World survey ranked business analytics No. 2 for the most difficult skill to find.

The specialized program goes beyond traditional data analytics, addressing how that analysis is applied to decision-making in a real business environment.  Core components include theory, mathematics and computer science.  Two concentrations to choose from – marketing, using data to track and predict consumer behavior and buying patterns; and management, applying data within an organization for sales or, increasingly, human resources purposes – let students apply learning to their own fields or fast-track into a new career.  Required internships at leading employers, such as healthcare, New York State and business and technology leaders, put the program into practice while potentially opening doors to employment.

“Whether you are looking to reinvent yourself or reach the peak of your profession, Saint Rose makes it possible with innovative graduate programs such as this.  Our new master’s degree in business analytics tells potential employers that our graduates will have exactly the training and experience that the world demands today and tomorrow,” said Saint Rose President Dr. Carolyn J. Stefanco.

“It’s all about the numbers in nearly every industry.  But you have to know what to do with them.  The new business analytics program at Saint Rose is an intensive, applied education designed to help students make their mark in big data,” said Gretchen Guenther-Collins, interim dean of the Huether School of Business at Saint Rose.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts business analyst jobs will increase much faster than the average for all occupations.  Salaries in business analytics start at more than $87,000, according to Computer World’s 2017 salary survey.  Career possibilities include management analyst, operations research analyst, logistician, statistician and market research analyst.

Saint Rose has begun accepting applications for this new program for the fall 2017 semester.
