Undergraduate Programs in Computer Science

The College’s Computer Science and Computer Information Systems programs are designed to prepare their students to become computing specialists.Majors will acquire the knowledge to advance into positions in computer programming, systems analysis, systems design, Internet programming and information systems management.Students will also be prepared to attend graduate programs in their field.

The Bioinformatics program is an interdisciplinary one that requires credits in computer science, mathematics,and the sciences. Bioinformatics is the application of computer science to biological problems that involve large quantities of complex data.Graduates of this program will be prepared to be employed in this growing field, and will also be prepared to enter graduate programs.

The College offers the major in Computer Information Systems during the day and evening sessions. The College offers the majors in Computer Science and Bioinformatics during the day session.

The department encourages students to minor in Computer Science. Students have great flexibility
to design their own minor based upon their interests.

Certificate programs are offered in the areas of Data Processing, Computer Programming, Microcomputer Systems, and Internet Programming. These certificate programs are designed to address the growing need for computer literacy and are geared toward members of the community who would like to possess those computer skills which will allow them to remain competitive in today’s job market. Transfer of credit hours from other colleges into CIS certification is limited because of rapid developments in computer technology.The certificate programs are available during both day and evening sessions.

Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, and Bioinformatics majors, minors and certificate students are required to maintain the following minimum academic indexes: 2.25 in the major, 2.00 in each computer information systems course, and 2.25 as the overall average.
