Annie Scherer ’20 has advanced to the final round of the in Lightning 100’s Music City Mayhem, a Nashville music competition for an artist development and promotion package. If you’re in Nashville on April 27th, be sure to check out the event and show your support! Raised in Voorheesville, Scherer has released one album plus one EP and describes her sound as a mix of rock n’ roll and alternative music. In 2020, three of her songs, including “Kaleidoscope,” “After Rain,” and “Roses and Lies,” received honorable mentions at international and notable songwriting competition SongDoor. Edson Chipalo ’17 is the 2023 commencement speaker for Berkshire Community College. Chipalo is a proud alum of BCC, where he completed his associates degree before attending Saint Rose.

Amal Tlaige ’14 is a Capital Bureau Reporter for Nexstar. Prior to becoming a political reporter, Tlaige served as a Senate Photographer, establishing connections and working relationships with lawmakers.

Kayla Vasilow Bills ’08, G’10 is the new principal at St. Mary’s Institute, Amsterdam. Bills is currently the third grade teacher at St. Mary’s and brings a wide range of experience to the position, including time as a special education instructor.

Matthew ‘Matt’ Murphy G’05, G’22 is the new principal at St. Mary’s School-Waterford. Murphy brings 19 years of educational experience to the role, including nine as a middle school teacher at St. Mary’s earlier in his career.  

Colleen Organ Guse ’04 and Sean Organ ’00 are basketball coaches for Albany Academy and Averill Park respectively. Both grew up loving the game and playing at Saint Rose. Their work was featured in the Daily Gazette as they each led their teams to the regional tournament. Megan Gagnon Viscio ’04 and her work were featured in the Altamont Enterprise. A talented artist, alongside her mother-in-law and known as The Idea Ladies, created the Joseph’s Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for the school production of the show with the same name at Clayton A. Bouton High School. When she is not creating costumed masterpieces for the school, she can be found on her artist blog The Studio House, volunteering and chairing the folks arts division of the Heldeberg Workshop each summer. Cynthia Pratt ’93, G’95 has been named the Program Coordinator for the new Saratoga Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program.  She, along with the faculty and staff, will be welcoming the inaugural class of six residents in July 2023.  In collaboration with Hudson Headwaters Health Network (HHHN) and Albany Medical Center, the Saratoga Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program will provide the highest standard of clinical training while emphasizing a broader public health and community-oriented approach. Six residents will be added to the residency each year, culminating in a total of 18 residents by 2025.

Kelly Butler Leverone ’91, G’07 is the new principal at Holy Spirit School, East Greenbush. Currently serving as a pre-k teacher at Holy Spirit, Leverone has more than 31 years of experience in Catholic education.

From 1989 until his retirement in 2015, Dr. Hurley taught undergraduate and graduate courses in organizational behavior, human resource management and other topics. An active member of the faculty, he served on many committees, advised and mentored students, and served as a leader to the campus. A distinguished army veteran, he received many accolades, including the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Senior Aviation Badge and Air Assault Badge. Dr. Hurley will be missed by his loving family and friends and by all those whose lives he touched both inside and outside of the classroom.
