Welcome to Virtual STAR Day!

We’ve adapted our STAR Day experience to a virtual format, designing two days that will prepare you for the start of your college career at Saint Rose.

A mix of live sessions and pre-recorded videos, each day is centered around an important theme: Welcome as well as Academic and Student Life Experience.

Going virtual

The College’s top priority is the health and safety of our students, employees, and the greater community. This virtual visit is a result of the preventative measure the College has established in response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Although we are disappointed we can’t complete this event in person, we’re thrilled that we can offer this two-day experience online! STAR Day is required for all incoming students, so you should attend all the events outlined below.

About Virtual STAR Day

We will conduct all of our sessions on Zoom, a video conferencing service. You will be able to hear from faculty and staff in real-time and ask questions throughout the different sessions.

  • For each session, a unique URL will be provided below.
  • Click on that link at the time of that session, and you will automatically be entered into the conference.
  • If you have not used Zoom before, you will have to download the app first.

Virtual STAR Day Schedule of Events

Monday, August 10

Welcome and Kick-Off

  • 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. – Meet the Golden Knights and Student Club Fair — Orientation Leaders and your Future Friends: Kick-off this three-day event by meeting our amazing Orientation Leaders who will be there for you from now until the start of your first day of classes! Plus, get to know student clubs and organizations by meeting club presidents and team members!
  • 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. – Academic Affairs Informational Session: We know there have been many questions regarding the Fall 2020 semester specifically related to courses, their delivery, and other areas of academic life. On Monday, August 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., we will hold an Academic Affairs informational session on Zoom, in which students and their families can have questions answered by the Academic Affairs team.

Ongoing Sessions

  • Campus Life Video Recordings Available for your Convenience Important information presented by Financial Aid, Title IX, Safe & Security, Information Technology Services, the Library, and the Campus Bookstore. Please watch these videos before today’s live Zoom sessions as they will help prepare you for the Live Q&A at 4 p.m.!
  • Take your Math Placement!
    Available to students online throughout the day, Saint Rose requires that you take a math placement so we can ensure you are placed in math and science courses that are appropriate both to your level of aptitude and to your major!

Morning Sessions

Mid-Day Break & Transfer Sessions

  • 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Break for Transfer Sessions & Lunch!
    • Lunch time!
      Take a break and stretch your legs!
    • Transfer Student Appointments with Faculty
      Schedule an appointment with a faculty member and ask any last-minute questions that you might have about your future major or just chat about what is on your mind! Students will receive their Zoom link and more information via email.
    • 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Take your Math Placement!

Afternoon Sessions

  • 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. p.m. – Residence Life Panel or Commuter Life Panel for students and families

    Residence Life Panel:You plan to live on campus — learn all about Residence Life at Saint Rose, and ask our expert Res-Life team all your burning questions!

    Commuter Life Panel: You plan to commute to Saint Rose — hear from commuter students and others about how you can have a fun, engaging, and safe experience at Saint Rose!

  • 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.  – Student Services Trivia/Panel
    For Students and Parents/Families There are a lot of services available to students to help them have a safe, supportive, and fulfilling college experience. Meet representatives from a variety of these services, and then, answer trivia questions about what you just learned during the Closing Session. (Featuring the Counseling Center, Health Services, Spiritual Life, Study Abroad, AOE, Student Life, Athletics, Career Center, Writing Center/Academic Success, and Aramark/Dining Services).

  • 4:00 – 4:30 p.m.  – Closing Session & Q&A Follow-Up
    For Students and Parents/FamiliesDuring this live Q&A, you will have a chance to ask questions based on our pre-recorded sessions (view below). We will have representatives from Financial Aid, Title IX, Safe & Security, Information Technology Services, the Library, and the Campus Bookstore available to you and your family during this Q&A.After the Q&A, we will close out your STAR Day experience with an outro from your orientation leaders as well as Director of Student Life and Coordinator of Family Relations Cherèva McClellan and Director of First-Year & Opportunity Programs Areatha Fryar. This is also your chance to compete in trivia, so don’t miss out!

Campus Safety – A Partnership for Parents and Families:

Our primary focus is to provide a safe experience for Saint Rose students. For parents and families, learn more about the federal and state regulations that address sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking, and the programming that is offered to educate and train the campus community around these issues. Students will receive a more in-depth training at Orientation.

Getting Connected

Using technology is such an integral part of your college experience. Listen to Technology Support Services Manager Rachel Ramsey and Senior Network Administrator – Security Systems Erin Farnam as they walk you through important information related to online learning, infrastructure, and ITS Support.

Library Services

Every single student frequents the Neil Hellman Library, either to borrow books, use the computer labs, meet up with a study group, or use the online databases. Don’t miss this informative video by Head of Reference and Instruction and Outreach Kate Moss!

Financial Aid

Our Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid Steve Dwire (AKA the Financial Aid King) and Assistant Devin Collins will give you the rundown on all things financial aid and the next steps you should take before you step foot on campus.

Student ID

Your Student ID is an important piece to the College puzzle. You will need it to access buildings, use campus printers, and eat on campus. Don’t miss this video that explains how you can upload your photo online and access your Student ID!

Campus Bookstore

Don’t wait halfway through the semester to find out where the Campus Bookstore is located! This video will address how to rent and/or purchase books and all the other fun items our store provides.

STAR Day Experience Survey

We thank you for spending time with us this week as you learned about the place you will soon call HOME. We really value your commitment to Saint Rose and its services. Please take a few moments to complete this survey about your STAR Day experience. Your participation in the survey will help us to adapt the process and make it an even greater experience for future students. The survey will take 5-7 minutes. Those who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 gift card to the Campus Bookstore.
