Professional ConnectionsThe College of Saint Rose Professional Connections program works to create a networking opportunity where you (the student) can draw upon the knowledge, skills, and perspective of an experienced professional. This connection can provide guidance and feedback while facilitating your growth and development.

While your professional may not provide you with all of the answers or give you a job/internship, they will hopefully facilitate self-reflection and self-development so that you are able to think critically and resolve challenges on your own. By participating in the program, we hope that you will:

• Have someone to talk with about choosing a major, career, graduate or professional school, etc.
• Learn more about a specific industry or career field
• Gain perspective and support on academic pursuits and challenges
• Develop insight about how to make the most of your time at Saint Rose, and beyond.
• Utilize an opportunity to cultivate a relationship over time

The Professional Connections program is a way to grow your personal and professional skill set and also expand your network. Participating in a connection requires time, energy, and enthusiasm. You will be expected to maintain regular contact, be responsive, and follow through with set commitments.

Professional Connections - Students & Recent Alumni

First, contact the Career Center and schedule an appointment with a staff member. During the appointment you will be given access to an interest form.  Once that form is submitted, you will be matched and contacted by your professional within 2 weeks.

The program has rolling registration, so you are able to submit an interest form whenever you are ready to participate.

You will be expected to maintain regular contact, be responsive, and follow through with set commitments. Basically, we ask that you respect the time of the professional you are paired with and communicate with us if you have any issues. Also, at the end of each semester we’ll ask you a few questions about your participation in the program.

You and your professional can work out the details and goals and decide how long you will maintain your relationship.

Current Saint Rose students (Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, & Graduate Students) and Recent Alumni (graduated within the last 2-3 years) are eligible to participate.

The group of professionals is made up of alumni, Board of Associates members, and other friends of the College from a variety of career fields.

Based on your responses to the interest form, the Professional Connections team will try to make the best possible match between you and available professionals. While the professional may not have experience in your career field of interest, they will be able to share a great deal of knowledge about what a professional path looks like and may be able to connect you with others in your desired field.

Your professional will contact you initially within 2 weeks after you submit your interest form. After that initial contact it’s up to you two to decide your preferred method of contact. Some may prefer in-person meetings, while others may rely on phone calls, e-mails, or Linked-In messages.

The initial contact should be a time to get to know one another. Share your interests, significant events or people in your life, and personal and professional goals.

If you are experiencing any issues related to your partnership, please e-mail: career@strose.edu or call (518) 454-5141 the Career Center.
