Housing Assignments for New Students

Housing on campus is available to students enrolled in full-time undergraduate and graduate programs. Generally, students must be at least 17 years of age, enrolled full time in an undergraduate program, and remain academically engaged at The College of Saint Rose to live in College-provided housing. A student whose course load falls below full-time status should contact the Office of Residence Life for permission to remain a resident.

Two-Year Residency Requirement for First-Year Students

First-year full-time undergraduate students are required to live on campus for the first two years they attend Saint Rose.  First-year students who wish to live off campus must apply to be exempted from this requirement prior to the start of the academic year.  Exemption requests will be considered on a case by case basis for students who:

• Change in household income
• Parent/guardian has tested positive for COVID-19 and the student is the primary caregiver
• Diagnosed physical or mental health condition
• Residing with a family member within 60 miles of campus
• Are married; or
• Have and live with their children.

Any student wishing to appeal should reach out to the Office of Residence Life at reslife@strose.edu and have documentation to support the request.

If a student has documented special needs, the Office of Residence Life will provide the most reasonable and appropriate on-campus housing assignment, in consultation with the applicable Saint Rose office(s).

All students residing in Saint Rose residence halls (except Centennial Hall, other college-owned apartments, or meal plan optional buildings) are required to select one of the College’s meal plans.  Students who have special dietary needs should contact Dining Services to learn what options are available for them.

Other exceptions will be granted on a space-available basis. In order to maintain a positive learning and social environment, the College reserves the right to deny housing to any individual who is determined to be a potential risk to the comfort and wellbeing of other residents.

Assigning Students to Campus Housing

In keeping with the spirit of The College, diversity is a core value of the Office of Residence Life.  Our housing assignments are made without regard to race, color, religion/creed, disability, national/ethnic origin, sexual orientation or any other condition established by law. The College of Saint Rose recognizes the benefit to living on campus and becoming part of a community that encourages both academic and co-curricular growth; part of this growth includes an openness to differences and a willingness to learn about others in a supportive environment.

We believe that this is a time for you to learn about and from other students, in particular, individuals who might be both similar and different from you.  We understand that you might know someone who will be joining you at Saint Rose for the first time and you would like to live with each other.  We encourage you to think this through carefully – it is one thing to be friends, but something else to live with each other.  We will accept only reciprocal roommate requests through MyHousing.  All first-year students will be required to complete a Roommate Agreement with your Resident Assistant to help with setting guidelines for living with a new roommate.

We recognize that you might have a preference as to the building in which you will live.  New students may rank the buildings that are available to them on the Occupancy Agreement/Housing Application.  If you are a first-year student, this includes buildings such as Lima Hall, Riley Hall, Carondelet Hall, Cavanaugh Hall, or others as determined by our office.  If you are a transfer student, you will be housed with other upperclass students.

After you have paid your $300 enrollment/room and board deposit, you will receive information letting you know that it is time to complete your on-line housing application through MyHousing.  You will also need to select a meal plan at this time.  Priority for housing will be given to students who pay their $300 deposit on or before May 1; we will work with students who pay after May 1 when space allows.
