We’re back (in-person)! It’s going to be another cold week in Albany, so bundle up, grab a warm bev from the on-campus Starbucks or nearby Bard & Baker, and cozy up with this week’s In the Know. ☕️

P.S. Do you have any announcements or events to share with other students? Get the word out! Email your In the Know submissions to Sarah at heikkins@strose.edu by 5 p.m. on Thursdays to be featured in the next edition.

Celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. this week: You’re invited to participate in It Starts With Me,” a four-day introspective centering the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that kicks off tomorrow. Head to the calendar section for the full schedule of events!

Get tested this week: If you’re just getting back to campus, this is your reminder that you need to get tested!

  • Resident students, your RA will provide you with a self-test kit once you’re moved in (just let them know you’ve arrived) – you can drop that off at a designated collection bin around campus.
  • Commuter and grad students, we’ll be offering testing clinics in the Saint Joseph Hall Auditorium on January 24, 25, and 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. – sign up for a testing slot here. If you can’t make any of those dates, please email Jen Richardson at richardj@strose.edu to make other arrangements.
  • If you can, we strongly encourage you to get tested before you come back to campus, even though we’re going to provide you with testing upon arrival. It saves you the trouble of finding out you need to quarantine after you’ve already arrived. If you test positive, please email your results to covidresults@strose.edu right away.

Sign up to get boosted! As we announced last week, the College is requiring that all students who are eligible get the COVID-19 vaccine booster by June 30, 2022. You won’t be able to enroll in the Fall 2022 semester until you’ve met this requirement, so make sure you get it done ASAP! We’ll be holding three more booster clinics on campus this semester on February 3, March 3, and April 7 – sign up for your booster here. Note: If you’ve already been granted medical or religious COVID-19 vaccine exemptions, you will continue to be exempt. If you’ve already been posted, don’t forget to send a pic of your card to covidresults@strose.edu

Yoga in the Sanctuary is back for the spring! Our first yoga class of the semester will be on Monday, January 31, at 7 p.m. at the Interfaith Sanctuary. Mats are available and the class is geared toward beginners. This is a great way to kick start self-care in the new year. All are welcome!

Why not plan to bring more happiness into your life in 2022? The Happiness Support Project will start meeting again at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Interfaith Sanctuary. New students are always welcome.

The Alana Steppers are looking for new dancers! Try out for one of Saint Rose’s most vibrant dance groups this week 💃 Auditions will be held January 24, 25, and 28. Head to the calendar section for more details!

Keep yourself movin’ with the Golden Vybz: Join the GV family this spring! This awesome group of dancers is holding tryouts this and next week – grab your water and head to the calendar section for more info!

Mask up, Saint Rose! Just like last semester, masks must be worn inside all College buildings. Following CDC recommendations, we’re also suggesting double-masking (a cloth mask on top of a surgical mask).

You may be eligible for a $5,000 scholarship! If you’re a sophomore or junior and are involved in service to the community – social, political, educational, or charitable – you may be eligible for the Honorable Richard J. Conners Memorial Scholarship! Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2022-2023 academic year. Application deadline is March 15. Learn more about the scholarship and apply here.

Help support the St. Catherine’s Center for Children! To help those in need in our community, St. Catherine’s Pathways to Health is holding a coat and glove drive on campus. Donate your lightly used or new coats and gloves to keep our community warm this winter! Donations can be dropped off outside the EAC Main Lounge through January 31.

Did you get the booster? Please send a copy of your updated vaccine card to covidresults@strose.edu ASAP!

Reminder from the Athletics Department: At this time, basketball games are closed to student and employee spectators. They hope to have everyone back in Nolan Gymnasium as soon as the number of COVID-19 cases in the region drops off.

January is National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM)! Of the millions of people stalked every year in the United States, over half report being stalked before the age of 25 – and young people ages 18-24 experience the highest rates of stalking among adults. Stalking is one of the Clery Act crimes that colleges and universities are charged with addressing, yet this crime is often misunderstood, minimized and/or ignored. Stalking is a pattern of behavior directed at a specific person that causes fear. Many stalking victims experience being followed, approached and/or threatened – including through technology. Stalking is a terrifying and psychologically harmful crime in its own right as well as a predictor of serious violence: stalking increases the risk of intimate partner homicide by three times. We all have a role to play in identifying stalking and supporting victims and survivors. Learn more about stalking and how you can help stop it on this website. Head to the Title IX website for more on- and off-campus resources.

Help us stop the spread! We’re gonna keep saying it every week, but the only way we’ll get through this wave of the pandemic is by working together! Keep yourself and your friends safe by properly wearing your masks inside (we’re talking mouth AND nose covered), limiting contact with people outside of your bubble, getting your booster, and checking the restart website for updates. If you or someone you know has been exposed to COVID-19, email covidresults@strose.edu so we can help you figure out what to do next.

Download Liberate! The Counseling Center recommends Liberate, meditation app, as a fantastic resource for Black students looking to develop a daily meditation habit. For more resources for BIPOC mental health, visit the Counseling Center website!

Get a free sexual wellness kit: Counseling and Health Services are now offering free sexual wellness kits to students! Call, email, or stop by their office to pick up your kit and any other sexual wellness goodies you need to enjoy yourselves (and each other) safely. Each kit includes finger and regular condoms, dental dams, and lube. Email counseling@strose.edu or healthservices@strose.edu for more information.

COVID Emotional Support Hotline: This past year has been rough, especially with all the changes we’ve seen on campus. If you need immediate support, the New York State Department of Health offers a COVID-19 Emotional Support Hotline at 844.863.9314.

The Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center is now on campus: The CVSVC’s advocacy services will be offered in the Counseling Center every Monday from 3 to 4 p.m. Their confidential Campus Coordinator will be there to explain your rights under Title IX, help students get extra time on assignments or change their classes/housing, answer your questions on reporting sexual and/or interpersonal violence, and help connect you with a counselor. Make an appointment today by contacting Amanda at 518.447.7100 or Amanda.Wingle@albanycountyny.gov.

Your mental health matters. The College’s Counseling Center is always here for you when you need support, whatever that looks like. Follow them on Instagram @csrcounselingctr for mental health and self care tips at @csrcounselingctr! You can also learn more about the services offered by our counselors here.

Saint Rose’s Chest Binder Program: Saint Rose students who identify as trans and/or nonbinary are eligible to get one FREE chest binder from the Counseling Center every semester. For more info, call our counselors at 518.454.5200, or send them an email at counseling@strose.edu.
