It’s the last week of the semester, so you know what that means…this is the last In the Know you’ll get until 2022. We’ll keep things short and sweet since we know you’re dutifully preparing for finals and starting the packing process early. 😉

Read on for all the end-of-semester reminders and announcements you’ll need to make the last week before break a breeze.

Oh! Have a wonderful winter break – we’ll miss you! See you next year 👋

What’s New and Next:

A few housekeeping things: This Friday, December 17, is the last day of the fall semester! Residence halls are closing Saturday, December 18 at 10 a.m. and will reopen Sunday, January 16, at 10 a.m. Remember that you can’t stay in the dorms over break unless you’ve already made arrangements with the Office of Residence Life or you live in Centennial Hall or a College-owned apartment! Spring classes start Tuesday, January 18.

Get tested before break! On Wednesday, December 15, and Thursday, December 16, the College will offer testing through the RNA Institute in Saint Joseph Hall Auditorium from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’ll be able to test 112 people each day, and results will be available that night. Sign up for those dates here. If you can’t make it on Wednesday or Thursday, we’ll also be offering rapid testing on Friday, December 17, in Saint Joseph Hall Auditorium. These results will be available after 15 minutes. Sign up here.

These tests are for students and employees who do not have any symptoms of COVID-19.  Anyone with symptoms should reach out to healthservices@strose.edu or covidresults@strose.edu to request the link to testing in Health Services. Students can also call Health Services at 518.454.5244 for a provider visit.

A message from the Campus Store: This is your friendly reminder that rental books are due back by Friday, December 17. We’d also like you to know that now is the best time to sell your textbooks! Come into the Campus Store in the EAC to get your holiday gifts and sell back your books! The Campus Store would also like to remind its customers that it can price match textbooks against competitors to ensure you get the best price available. Please ask an associate at the Campus Store about the price match program for more information.

The Campus Store will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the winter break. Next semester, the store will be hosting online order pickup in the Standish room from January 10 to January 15. The room will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Online order pickup will be hosted in-store starting on January 17.

All of this information and more can be found on the store website.

Spread cheer the Golden Knight way: If you’re looking for the perfect gifts for your friends and family this year (or you just want to treat yourself), check out our Alumni Gift Guide! All the gifts in this guide were made by Saint Rose alums. Our enterprising alums never cease to amaze us with their vision and creativity, and offer you a wide array of goodies at all price points.

If you’re graduating this academic year and are thinking about a master’s degree in education: Take a look at Project THRIVE, a federally funded program at Saint Rose that covers the majority of the tuition for those who get into the program to pursue their master’s degree in either special education or school psychology. The program focuses on developing teachers and school psychologists who are highly skilled at working with school-age children with disabilities by viewing their needs through the lens of cultural diversity and mental health.

Considering a master’s degree in something else? Whether you’re thinking about staying at Saint Rose for graduate school or need advice about the process, Graduate Admissions is happy to help. Reach out to grad@strose.edu to set up an appointment to talk.

Reminders:

Two important reminders from ITS:

  • ITS will be replacing the College’s wireless network after the fall semester ends. We’ll be installing wireless access points in hundreds of locations on campus, including residence hall rooms. Help us out by removing any items near data ports (typically small orange outlets similar to phone jacks and usually found near your cable TV jack) in your room before you leave at the end of the semester.
  • You should have received an email a few weeks ago with a link to our annual Student Technology Survey administered through Survey Monkey. ITS is looking for feedback so that we can improve our quality and level of service to students. Before you head home, take a few minutes to complete the survey. This is a great opportunity for students to share their experience and voice their opinions!

Need help finding gifts for the holidays? We’ve got you covered! Check out our tips for holiday shopping on a college student budget on the Saint Rose Blog.

Going to the ATM just got way more convenient: Saint Rose has partnered with SEFCU to bring a Video Teller Machine (VTM) to campus for the use of all community members. Bank conveniently on campus right from a SEFCU Video Teller Machine (VTM). Talk to a live teller seven days a week! Learn more about SEFCU banking here: https://www.sefcu.com/SaintRose

Here are the hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Weekends 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Certain holidays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When I say “mask,” you say, “up!” This is your weekly reminder that you need to mask 👏 up 👏 when you’re inside all College buildings, regardless of your vaccination status. Starting Monday, masks must be worn in all public indoor venues in New York State, per Governor Hochul. Please make sure your mask is completely covering your mouth and nose – they’re not doing a whole lot if they’re under your chin! Stay up-to-date with the COVID-19 Dashboard.

Need some extra study help before finals? Our tutors are offering in-person and online tutoring options for students. Check the Navigate app to see what’s available!

It’s finals week!!! Here’s a quick refresher on the library’s COVID protocols:

  • Please don’t move furniture or chairs to sit together – they’re configured to be 3 feet apart to maintain proper social distancing.
  • Wear your mask at all times – make sure it’s covering your nose AND mouth!
  • They’re still not allowing food in the library, but drinks with covered tops are okay – just take a sip, then put your mask back on.

Speaking of finals…how’s studying going? If you need a little help getting motivated, we’ve got five simple strategies for preparing for finals that’ll do the trick! Read all of them here.

Need a quiet place to study? The third floor of the Neil Hellman Library is dedicated to silent study. They’ve got a variety of seating waiting for you, including tables, cubicles, and comfy chairs. They also have six individual study rooms (first come, first served) – get a key at the circulation desk. Visit the library website for hours and more info.

Looking for another study spot on campus? Check out our list of Study Stops.

Important winter term dates: If you’re enrolled in winter term classes, make sure you have these dates saved in your calendar.

  • December 20: Winter term begins
  • December 22: Last day to add or drop classes
  • January 3: Last day to withdraw from classes
  • January 14: Winter term ends

Now that’s #goldblooded: After making it to the Final Four this Thursday, the women’s soccer team took on Grand Valley State in the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship yesterday. They fell in a heartbreaking 3-2 double overtime match to Grand Valley State, which claimed its seventh national title. It was a storybook season, and we send special congratulations to the team’s seniors, who are finishing up their Golden Knights careers. We are so proud of all of our Golden Knights! 💛⚽️🖤

He’s sold us on his abilities: Congratulations to Harry Soederlind ’22, a marketing major and international student-athlete on the men’s soccer team, for taking top honors among business students across the country in the Fall 2021 RMMKRS Virtual Sales Competition, the largest and first-ever competition of its kind, which was sponsored by Dell. Over 1,600 students competed to sell a product to a potential buyer on their phones or tablets, having sales conversations in a simulated elevator with an artificially intelligent (AI) customer bot that also scored students. Read more about Soederlind’s achievement here.

And shout out to all of you! The semester is wrapping up, and you did it! We’re really proud of all of you. Congratulations on your academic achievements, senior recitals, showcases, final projects, and more. And a fond “see you at commencement in May” to those who finished degrees this semester. Mission accomplished.
