Synergistic Treatment

Our treatment approach is based on an integrative, synergistic model, which combines evidence-based treatment components through individual and group therapy experiences. The program focuses on developing three areas vital to achieving comprehensive change in one’s communication: speech, attitudes/feelings and environment.

Previous treatment experience is not necessary to participate in the summer program. For those clients actively engaged in ongoing therapy, we would be happy to tailor the program to your needs. Treatment is provided by our graduate student clinicians under direct supervision of our expert ASHA-certified clinical supervisors. Throughout the weekend program, participants will have many opportunities to contribute to and take advantage of small and large group activities including open-mic opportunities. This provides a chance to embrace the challenge of the often-difficult situation of speaking in front of a group, while actively contributing to the weekend’s topic.

Keynote Speaker
The main event of each Weekend Workshop is a gala dinner on Saturday night, featuring a keynote address. This year, we are focusing on the use of writing and public speaking to gain confidence as a person who stutters and with the help of our guest speaker, Ryan Cowley, we will explore ways in which a person who stutters can use creative writing and public speaking to help us cope and support progress.

Ryan Cowley, Keynote Speaker Weekend Workshop CEC 2023
Ryan Cowley, is an author, public speaker, and sportswriter. He has written and published two books with more on the way, spoken to colleges across the United States, and, as a sportswriter, has covered some major events such as the NHL’s Stanley Cup Final. Ryan currently lives in Toronto with his wife, Shannon. He will join us throughout the weekend by signing books, providing opportunities for interaction, and delivering a keynote address during our gala dinner on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
