  • 7 p.m. – 2017 Vickery Speaker in Ethics & Leadership: Dr. Vanessa Northington Gamble, MD, Ph.D., University Professor of Medical Humanities, George Washington University, discusses equity and justice in U.S. medicine and public health. Carl E. Touhey Forum, Lally School of Education. Author of “Making A Place for Ourselves: The Black Hospital Movement: 1920-1945,” Dr. Gamble chaired the 1997 Tuskegee Syphilis Study Legacy Committee that secured a Presidential apology for the treatment of African-American patients. The talk is free and open to the public.

November 9:

  • 5:30 p.m. – “Disagree with Dignity – Understanding the First Amendment,” The College of Saint Rose 2017 Jurist in Residence Program, is a panel discussion with the Honorable Loretta A. Preska, U.S. District Judge; Eve Burton, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Hearst; and Alfred D. Chapleau, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Pre-law Advisor at The College of Saint Rose. The panel will be moderated by Daniel P. Nolan, Esq., Partner and CEO of Hugh Johnson Wealth Advisors, with opening remarks by Rex Smith, Vice President and Editor of the Times Union. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Carl E. Touhey Forum, Thelma P. Lally School of Education, 1009 Madison Ave., Albany. The event is free and open to the public.   • Through December 6: “Reaching for the Sky,” an exhibition by Lothar Osterburg, at the Esther Massry Gallery, 1002 Madison Ave., Albany. The gallery is closed for Thanksgiving, November 22 to 26. Open 1st Fridays: November 3, December 1 from 5 to 9 p.m.
