President Carolyn J. Stefanco knows what it is like to be the first person in a family to attend college – because she was. She recalls stepping onto the campus of the University of Colorado at Boulder without any sort of roadmap for what should happen next. She figured it all out on her own.
The College of Saint Rose wants to help supply that roadmap to others, particularly when nationwide, one out of three first-year students is a first-generation college student, and at Saint Rose, more than 30 percent of the students in our first-year class are the first in their families to attend college.
Stefanco outlined five ways Saint Rose is meeting first-generation students’ needs in a recent essay for eCampus News, an online education technology publication.
