An Innovative MBA That Allows Students to Learn ‘Any Time, Any Way’

Dandan Wu, professor in the Huether School of Business

An MBA is a gateway to a rewarding business career – but too many potential students find it difficult to pursue the degree because of work or family obligations. Saint Rose is proud to announce its innovative new model for delivering MBA classes. The Flex MBA allows students to attend any class in the way that works best for their schedule and situation.

For each class session, students attend in the way that’s most convenient to them, without having to register for a specific modality. Every session of every class required for the MBA is available in all three ways:

  • In person, in a traditional classroom setting
  • Remotely (synchronous), via livestream in real time
  • Online (asynchronous), via recorded class video

“Face time is crucial for learning, and online programs can feel isolating,” said MBA program coordinator John F. Dion, an associate professor of marketing. “At the same time, juggling real life and classes can be challenging. We’ve committed to the Flex MBA mode of delivery because we strongly feel that no student should have to choose between work or family and school.”

Meet Two of Our 2019 Graduates

Wendella Wilson and Victoria Olanipekun, two Class of 2019 Saint Rose graduates

Wendella Wilson, a biology major, and Victoria Olanipekun, a public health major, will graduate this month having left behind an important legacy at Saint Rose: a dance team that reflects their Caribbean and African roots.

The two students, whose families hail from different parts of the world, grew up with traditional African-Caribbean dances since the time they were very young. When they came to Saint Rose, they wanted to connect with other students through that important part of their culture, so they founded Golden Vybz, an African-Caribbean dance team. The team provides both a place for students to connect as well as cultural awareness through dance and music.

“I’ll ask, ‘What’s going on in your life?’ and find out what they’re dealing with, and then start getting more specific,” he said. “We learned this at Saint Rose.”

Kelly Holohan ‘89: Inspired to Follow Her Professors’ Footsteps

Kelly Holohan '89, a graduate of Saint Rose and coordinator of the BFA/MFA program at Temple University

Kelly Holohan ‘89 still has an undergraduate syllabus from Saint Rose with design class assignments from 1987. It’s a fitting keepsake. It was Kristine Herrick, one of Holohan’s graphic design professors, who inspired Holohan to choose a career in academia by offering her the opportunity to teach after graduation.

Today, she’s a professor at Temple, where she also heads the MFA and BFA programs in interactive and graphic design.

“The relationships that I built, my friendships and the relationships that I had with my teachers at Saint Rose, who have since become my friends, I’m just eternally grateful,” she said.
