Explore the world through art history!

The more you know about art and its history, the better artist you will be. Your participation in four or more art history classes will provide the knowledge and critical thinking necessary to be your most creative. Every semester you will have the opportunity to see original works of art in museums and galleries such as the Albany Institute of History and Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and Mass MoCA. Special upper level courses will take you into the studios of major contemporary artists in New York City, and study abroad opportunities could take you into the museums of Europe and beyond.

Art History Minor

The Minor consists of 19 or 20 credits, depending on the courses taken. Students must maintain a B average or above to receive an Art History minor. Four out of five courses must be taken at The College of Saint Rose. Please see the Catalog for further details.

Art History is the link among all the programs offered in the Art Department. Combining history and literary criticism, it invites all students to step back from their areas of concentration and see themselves within a wide context...In doing so, each student comes to understand how his or her values corroborate with the rich, kaleidoscopic world of the visual arts.
