Karla Engel-Molnar
Coordinator International Recruitment and Admissions

Karla Engel-Molnar has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from The University of Florida and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Valdosta State University. She began her career in education teaching English to high school students throughout the U.S. and later taught ESL to university students from all over the world. Karla’s commitment to international education and involvement with student programming and marketing, quickly led to her promotion as marketing and recruitment coordinator at her previous university.

As the Coordinator for International Admissions and Recruitment at Saint Rose, Karla loves to travel and meet prospective students throughout the world and help them through the admissions process to become students at Saint Rose. She believes Saint Rose offers a unique combination of an outstanding education in an exceptionally caring and personalized environment. When she is not working or visiting her family in Florida, you will find her at area gyms teaching Spinning and other fitness classes.

Leah Shapiro
Assistant Director of International Student Services

Leah has a B.S. in neurobiology and Russian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As an undergraduate student, she studied abroad in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey. These experiences inspired her to pursue a career in international education. After graduating, she worked with international military students at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. Her love of travel and the post-Soviet sphere then pulled her abroad again, and she worked in Georgia (the country), Ukraine, and Kazakhstan before moving to Albany for her job as Assistant Director of International Student Services. In her free time, Leah loves exploring the many hiking trails around Albany and trying new vegetarian recipes.

Isabel Hansen
Assistant Director of Study Abroad

Isabel recently earned her B.S. in Business Management from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. During her junior year, she spent her spring semester studying abroad in Australia, and traveling all over Asia. Once she returned, Isabel immediately realized her passion for international education, and in helping others see the world/travel. She then began working in the study abroad office at her college, and also became an Alumni Ambassador for the American Institute for Foreign Study. These experiences helped lead her back to the Capital Region to become the new Assistant Director of Study Abroad at Saint Rose.

Claudia Carlos
ESL Program Coordinator/Instructor

Claudia has a Ph.D. in Rhetorical Studies from the University of Illinois, as well as an M.S. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University at Albany. As the daughter of foreign language instructors, she spent parts of her childhood in both Mexico and France, and became trilingual by the time she was 12.  Later on as an adult, she studied in Paris and in Salamanca, Spain.  During her academic teaching career, she has taught many courses in rhetoric and writing, most notably at Carnegie Mellon University, where she was a faculty member in the Department of English for six years.  Since 2014, when she became the ESL Program Coordinator, Claudia has taught Intensive English Language courses for international students.  In her free time, she enjoys attending artistic and cultural events in the Capital Region.
