You may also visit the Transfer Equivalency Database to see how courses will transfer from area Community Colleges.

Course Registration

The Office of Academic Advising pre-registers all incoming transfer students for their first-semester class schedule. Your course schedule is determined by the requirements of your academic major, your transfer credits, your score on the math placement exam, and liberal education courses you select. When you attend the STAR orientation day, you will meet with a faculty advisor in your major to review your class schedule and make any revisions if need be.

Transfer letter packets regarding scheduling your courses and math placement will be mailed out to your address as soon as your deposit is paid.

Since registration policies vary from institution to institution, it is the student’s responsibility to become aware of the registration policies at Saint Rose including: Add/Drop/Withdraw and Pass/Fail Grading. Please note that first year students entering in their first semester will not be able to add/drop courses on their own.

Advising Presentation

Filling out the Pre-Registration Worksheet will help us to place you according to your course preferences. Additional factors influencing your schedule will also include:

1.) the requirements of your major; 2.) the College’s Liberal Education requirements; 3.) overall course availability; and, finally, 4.) Math Placement results.

Once you’ve submitted the Worksheet, we’ll put together a provisional schedule, registering you for two or three courses in your major, as well as two or three Liberal Education courses. You’ll have an opportunity to review and discuss this schedule during your STAR date.

Also, you do have the option to download a paper copy of the Pre-Registration Worksheet. If you choose this option, please mail the completed form to:

Math Placement Testing

Students entering The College of Saint Rose as first-year or as transfer students are required to take a math placement test unless:

*A student enters the College with a “C-“ or better in College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, or a Calculus course which carries college credit. (note: Math/Science majors/concentrations are encouraged to take the Math Placement if they are only transferring in College Algebra). Know that earning College Statistics credit will not waive the Math Placement.

*A student enters the College with a “3” or better on an Advanced Placement test in Calculus.

If you meet either of the above two requirements, you may register for any mathematics course at The College of Saint Rose for which you meet the pre-requisites. If you do not meet either of the above two requirements, you must take a math placement test.

The Math Placement can either be taken at home or on campus. It must be complete by the time students attend the STAR orientation day. To take it at home, students will use Honorlock and must have access to a computer/laptop with a webcam. You are allowed to use this system once free of charge. The Math Placement will not be offered on campus this summer due to the pandemic.

For more information on the Math Placement please go to https://www.strose.edu/student-development/student-success/academic-success-center/math-placement-support/

*Unavailable for Summer 2020* To make an appointment to take it on campus, please go to www.strose.edu/reserve.

Once the semester starts the Math Placement exam is offered for free at the Academic Success Center every Thursday, please visit the Academic Success Center on the 2nd floor of St. Joseph to schedule to take it.
