Patterson “Pat” Franck, Saint Rose security guard of 23 years

For over 23 years, Patterson “Pat” Franck proudly served the Saint Rose community as a security guard. Known for his empathy and kindness to students, he spent many of those years on the night shift and will be sorely missed by the entire Saint Rose community.

The Honorable Leonard A. Weiss H’92, Saint Rose trustee emeritus

The Honorable Leonard A. Weiss H’92 served as a trustee from 1982 to 1991, and again from 1995 to 1998. In 2005, he was elected as a Trustee Emeritus consistently attending and lending his wisdom to board meetings including many recent meetings on zoom. He was the College’s 1992 commencement speaker, receiving an honorary doctoral degree. In 2020, Judge Weiss was an A Community of Excellence honoree. A World War II Army veteran, he was active in many charities close to his heart but most important to him was his service in the Judiciary. In 1977, Mayor Erastus Corning II appointed Mr. Weiss as a justice of the City Court of Albany and that same year Judge Weiss was elected to a full term as the nominee of all four major political parties. In 1978, he was elected as justice of the Supreme Court as a candidate of all political parties.

In 1981, Governor Hugh L. Carey designated Judge Weiss to serve on the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court, Third Department. Three years later, Governor Mario M. Cuomo appointed Judge Weiss as an associate justice. In 1992, Governor Cuomo appointed Judge Weiss the presiding justice of the Appellate Division, Third Department. Judge Weiss retired from the court in 1993 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. In 1998, Gov. George Pataki appointed Judge Weiss to a term as commissioner on the New York State Public Service Commission. Judge Weiss joined McNamee Lochner in 1994 and served as special counsel until the 2020 merge with Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP. Concentrating on alternate dispute resolution, Judge Weiss was a mediator and arbitrator, and a judicial hearing officer for the New York State Supreme Court. He was a charter member of the New York Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators (NYAMA), an association of mediators and arbitrators distinguished by their hands-on experience in the field of civil and commercial conflict.

It is often said that to gauge the greatness of an individual, one has only to examine the example that person has set for others through personal and professional deeds. If this is true, Judge Weiss personified this maxim.
