Mark Edem, Marcia White, and Courtland Daverne

The College held its annual Service and Appreciation Awards on April 30, 2022, in the Picotte Recital Hall. The awards honor students, employees, (and, this year, two Saint Rose parents) who uplift the College community in various ways.

The 2022 recipients are:

Student Association Awards

Annie Sheeley Staff of the Year Award
The recipient is someone who has demonstrated dedication to the students at The College of Saint Rose and works above and beyond what is required of them. The recipient is chosen by the Student Clubs.

Recipient: Laurie Sage

Club of the Year Award
This award recognizes a Student Club at The College of Saint Rose for their dedication to the student body. The recipient is chosen by the Student Clubs.

Recipient: Student Events Board

Club Advisor of the Year Award
The recipient is someone who has demonstrated dedication to a student club at The College of Saint Rose and works above and beyond what is required of them. The recipient is chosen by the Student Clubs.

Recipient: Theresa Belfance

Faculty Member of the Year Award
This award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated dedication to the students at The College of Saint Rose and works above and beyond what is required of them. The recipient is chosen by the Student Clubs.

Recipient: Anne Gilman

Administrator of the Year Award
This award recognizes an administrator who has demonstrated dedication to the students at The College of Saint Rose and works above and beyond what is required of them. The recipient is chosen by the Student Clubs.

Special Recognition Award

The Saint Joseph Award
The recipient is someone who has demonstrated the values of Saint Joseph and dedication to The College of Saint Rose. The recipient is chosen by the Chief of Staff and the Associate Vice President for Student Development.

Co-Curricular Awards

Academic Success Center Outstanding Peer Tutor Award
The Academic Success Center Outstanding Peer Tutor Award is presented to the graduating senior tutors who have worked in the open lab tutoring area for two or more semesters and who best meet the varied academic needs of Saint Rose students, in keeping with the College’s ideals of service and excellence.

Dear Neighbor Award
The Dear Neighbor Award is in honor of a student(s) who take to heart this central part of our College’s mission to respond to the needs of the “dear neighbor.” When the community of our founding sisters, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet, first began, it involved a group of women going out into the community around them to identify the needs that had been going unmet and then finding a way to respond to those needs.

The President’s Award for Leadership and Inclusive Excellence
The College of Saint Rose President’s Leadership and Inclusive Excellence Award is designed to recognize, on an annual basis, two students who have made a significant contribution toward institutionalizing the mission and goal of our commitment to diversity. Each recipient receives a $250 award to be used at their discretion.

Recipients: Courtland Daverne and Mark Edem

The ALANA Student Achievement Scholarship
The ALANA (Asian, Latin, African, Native American) Student Achievement Scholarship was established by an anonymous donor to honor a student who demonstrates a commitment to academic success, leader-ship, and service to others within the Saint Rose and Albany community. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually at the beginning of the fall semester.

The Sister Elizabeth Varley Award
The Sister Elizabeth Varley Award is given to graduating AOE seniors who in their undergraduate careers exemplify the goals and missions of these programs at The College of Saint Rose. This award is given in honor of Sister Elizabeth Varley, a professor Emerita of the English Department, for her commitment to students and her love of learning, and in recognition of the Saint Rose faculty and their on-going support of the mission of AOE.

The Chronicle Editor’s Award
The Chronicle Editor’s Award is given to editor(s) of the student run newspaper who demonstrate continued commitment to the well-being of the newspaper and the college community.

Recipients: Abigail Bravo and Ameara Ditsche

Huether School of Business

Outstanding Business Tutor Service Award
This award honors the work of School of Business tutors who contribute much to the academic success of their peers and motivate and inspire others through their dedication and passion for their work. The recipients may be either under-graduate or graduate students of the School of Business. Considerations include quality of assistance, dedication, knowledge, creativity, and unique contributions.

Huether School of Business Peer Engagement Award
This award recognizes Business students who have made a significant contribution to enhancing fellow students’ engagement in the Business School community. These students lead by example and have motivated others to work together for the betterment of the School.

Graphic Design Service and Appreciation Award
An award honoring graphic design students who have contributed
invaluable volunteer service to the department and to the greater College community.

Communications Department Community Service Award
Given to students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the department and to the College community.

Recipient: Jada Hart

Burton-Biagiotti Service Award
Sister Agnes is memorialized by the Biagiotti-Burton Award, which was established by Nora Anderson in tribute to her nephew Domenico Biagiotti’s favorite professor, and is given each year to a student selected by members of the History department. She also was instrumental in setting up the Sr. Rosaleen Gilroy, CSJ History-Political Science Award, which is given each year to a senior majoring in History/Political Science with the highest grade point average.

Gariba Abdul-Korah Award
This award, named for our late colleague Dr. Gariba Abdul-Korah, goes to the student with the broadest international perspective. This might include study abroad, service with an international agency/organization, study of an international problem, or plans to attend graduate school in international politics, law, or history.

History and Political Science Campus & Community Service Award
Presented to a History and Political Science student who has made outstanding contributions to the campus and the broader community.

Recipient: Scott Jones

History and Political Science Outstanding Senior Award
Recipients are graduating seniors who have at least a 3.50 GPA and who meet other criteria specified by the departments in which they study.

Sister Rosaleen Gilroy, CSJ, History-Political Science Award
This award honors the graduating senior carrying the highest cumulative GPA in the History-Political Science major.

Recipient: Camden Malone

School of Mathematics and Sciences

Computer Science and Math Award
This award is presented to the students who have shown outstanding service and commitment to Computer Science and Mathematics.

Recipient: Siew Goh

Science Service Award
This award is presented to the students who have shown outstanding service and commitment to the Department of Physical and Biological Sciences.

THELMA P. LALLY SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

The Friday Knights Program Service Award
This award is given to senior students and graduate students who have provided consistent service and leadership within the Friday Knights Programs for Children with Autism during their time as a student at Saint Rose. This often has included volunteering as a counselor in the recreation program as well as teaching children to swim in our “Fishes” program. The award is given to those who have provided outstanding service over their career as a student at The College of Saint Rose.

Teacher Education Service and Appreciation Award
Teacher Education Department Service and Appreciation Award is presented to a student (or students) who has a minimum GPA of 3.0 and distinguished themselves through outstanding service to the to the department, school, and/or broader community.

Best Buddies Service Award
The Best Buddies Service Award is for the students who have provided outstanding leadership in facilitating the activities, events, and fundraising for the Best Buddies Program.

Recipients: Elena Dochak and Abigail Pauli

Special Education Program Service Award
This award is for the student who has provided outstanding leadership to a variety of service programs on campus and in the community, including the Council for Exceptional Children Student Chapter and the Planning & Academic Coaching for Educators (PACE) program.
