In May, The College of Saint Rose named the recipients of the 2020 Service & Appreciation Awards. For more than three decades, Saint Rose has recognized students and members of the campus community for their service and dedication to the College’s mission at this special annual event. This year, honorees were celebrated with a video presentation.

Each of the College’s four schools, along with the Student Association, and several Co-Curricular areas, presented awards to recognize students and individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to academic success, leadership, and service to others.

THE SCHOOL OF ARTS & HUMANITIES

The Center for Art & Design | Office of Admission Student Service Award 2020
An award honoring art students who have contributed invaluable volunteer service to the department and to the greater College community.

This award recognizes an English or English-Adolescence Education major for outstanding community service.

THE HUETHER SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

Portfolio Management Service Award
The Portfolio Management Service Award is given by the finance faculty of the Huether School of Business to those students who made a significant contribution either as representatives of the College in the Adirondack Investment Competition and/or as portfolio managers for The College of Saint Rose student-managed portfolios.

School of Business Community Service Award
This award recognizes business students who have accomplished exemplary community service in the United States and/or other countries. These students have demonstrated their motivation to be caring citizens of society, and their service has contributed substantially to the Huether School of Business’s involvement in local and global communities.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Service Award
Students in the VITA program prepare federal and state income tax returns for low-income individuals and families, developing and using technical and interpersonal skills in the process. They gain experience of practical application of individual tax law through volunteer community service.

Best Buddies Service Award

This award is for the student who has provided outstanding leadership to a variety of service programs on campus and in the community, including the Council for Exceptional Children Student Chapter and the Planning & Academic Coaching for Educators (PACE) program.

The Friday Knights Programs Service Award
This award is given to senior students and graduate students who have provided consistent service and leadership within the Friday Knights Programs for Children with Autism during their time as a student at Saint Rose. This often has included volunteering as a counselor in the recreation program, as well as teaching children to swim in our “Fishes” program. The award is given to those who have provided outstanding service over their career as a student at Saint Rose.

CO-CURRICULAR AWARDS

The ALANA Student Achievement Scholarship
The ALANA (Asian, Latin, African, and Native American) Student Achievement Scholarship was established by an anonymous donor to honor a student who demonstrates a commitment to academic success, leadership, and service to others within the Saint Rose and Albany community. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually at the beginning of the fall semester.

The Sister Elizabeth Varley Award
The Sister Elizabeth Varley Award is given to graduating Academic Opportunity Experience (AOE) seniors, who in their undergraduate careers, exemplify the goals and missions of these programs at Saint Rose. This award is given in honor of Sister Elizabeth Varley, a professor Emerita of the English Department, for her commitment to students and her love of learning, and in recognition of the Saint Rose faculty and their on-going support of the mission of AOE.

Academic Success Center Outstanding Peer Tutor Award
The Academic Success Center Outstanding Peer Tutor Award is presented to the graduating senior tutors who have worked in the open lab tutoring area for two or more semesters and who best meet the varied academic needs of Saint Rose students, in keeping with the College’s ideals of service and excellence.

Academic Success Center Outstanding Peer Leader Award
This is an award for students that are graduating senior peer leaders for Science 100 and/or Science 200. In order to receive this award, they are required to have served for at least three semesters, to have received excellent evaluations from the students that they tutor, and to have provided services to the students and the faculty above and beyond those required by all peer leaders.

The Sister Catherine Francis Soulier Junior Appreciation Award
This award was established by the Alumni Association in 1975 in honor of Sister Catherine Francis Soulier, former president of Saint Rose, recognizing a junior class member in good academic standing, for service to the College community.
