The College of Saint Rose and Albany Medical Center have signed an agreement offering Albany Med employees a 20% tuition discount for the Master of Science in Social Work program at Saint Rose.

The discount is available to Albany Medical Center employees who meet the admissions criteria for the program. The discount will be available beginning in Spring 2020.

“The College of Saint Rose and Albany Medical Center are both institutions that work for the betterment of the Capital Region and beyond. Health care social workers and professionals who focus on mental health and substance abuse issues are in high demand,” said Saint Rose President Carolyn J. Stefanco, who also serves on the board of directors at Albany Med. “Both Saint Rose and Albany Med want to meet that critical need. We are pleased to help more Albany Medical Center employees pursue advanced education in this field in an affordable way.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, between 2018 and 2028, the demand for social workers is projected to grow 11 percent for all social workers, much faster than the average for all occupations, and 17 percent and 18 percent for health care social workers and mental health and substance abuse social workers respectively.

The Master of Science in Social Work program at Saint Rose launched in Fall 2017 and focuses on well-being and prevention across five essential realms: spiritual, social/environmental, emotional/psychological, physical, and economic. The social work faculty at Saint Rose are all licensed practitioners from various backgrounds and practice areas, including aging, trauma and crisis intervention, and diversity and social justice, among many others.

In fewer than two years, MSSW program enrollment at Saint Rose has grown to nearly 60 graduate students.

Albany med is one of the largest private-sector employers in the region.

“Part of the process of treating patients is meeting their mental and emotional needs and connecting them with services that are important to their overall well-being and health,” said James J. Barba, president and chief executive officer of Albany Medical Center. “We greatly value the role of our social workers in patient care, and we are proud to partner with The College of Saint Rose, which has a strong track record in social work education, to offer this opportunity to Albany Med employees.”

Albany Med employees who are interested in the program should inquire or apply through the Saint Rose Office of Graduate Admissions. Visit www.strose.edu/mssw for more information.
