12 Angry Men Production at Saint Rose

Saint Rose faculty and students will participate in a historic event this Sunday, April 7, at 7 p.m., as they join a nationwide movement to present an all-female production of Reginald Rose’s “12 Angry Men” at the Saint Rose Campus Theatre located at 996A Madison Avenue (behind 1000 Madison Avenue), Albany, New York. The performance is open to the public. Tickets cost $5 at the door.

12,000 Voices, a movement founded by Broadway producer Lauren Class Schneider, aims to have an all-female reading of the iconic play at nearly 1,000 locations across the country during the weekend of April 5 through 8.

Saint Rose is one of nine participating locations in New York State and the only location in the Capital Region. The play was written more than 19 years before women were able to serve on juries in all 50 states.

“I learned about the initiative from Playbill, on a theatre blog,” said Aileen Burke ’20, a political science major, who organized the performance at Saint Rose.

“Participating in this initiative is significant for a college that was founded by women! For me, it is the perfect way to bring together women of diverse experiences.”

Students, faculty, and alumni will participate in the reading, including Burke, Angela Ryan-Ledtke, instructor of acting at Saint Rose, Elizabeth Richards Hart, assistant professor of communications, Cailin Brown Leary, associate professor and department chair of communications, Risa Faussette, associate professor of history/political science, Taylor Casey ‘19, Sam Karian ‘19, Emily Paolicelli ‘22, Sonia Morreira ‘19, Julia Martin ‘21, Joyce Hills ‘20, and Breanne Morrissey ‘22. Angeli Lilliman ‘21 will play the Guard and Lauren D’Annibale ’16, G’18, will read stage directions.

As part of the mission of 12,000 Voices, hosts are encouraged to work within their community to increase voter registration and turnout, so Burke will provide cast and audience members the opportunity to update their voter registration at the close of the show.
