President Carolyn J. Stefanco with a student and family on move-in day 2018.

President Carolyn J. Stefanco recently published an essay in eCampus News, an online education technology publication, titled “5 ways our college is helping first-generation college students succeed.” In it, she shares her own experiences as a first-generation college student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, as well as the initiatives Saint Rose has undertaken to ensure student success.

As noted by Stefanco in her essay, “Nationwide, one out of every three first-year students start their first semester of college under similar circumstances, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. That is also true at the institution I lead, The College of Saint Rose, in New York, where more than 30 percent of the students in our most recent first-year class are the first in their families to go to college.”
