The mission of the intercollegiate athletics program at The College of Saint Rose is aligned with the College's mission to develop the whole person. Saint Rose aims to attract talented student-athletes who are well suited to be successful both academically and athletically. In addition, the College's intramural and recreational programs offer opportunities for participation by all members of the College community.
Saint Rose offers 19 intercollegiate sports at the NCAA Division II level:
The coaching staffs aim to meet with each of its potential recruits on campus at some point either during their junior or senior year of high school. Those meetings generally take place during an NCAA sanctioned official recruiting visit, as part of an unofficial visit that is initiated by a potential recruit, or as part of several Open House programs that are sponsored by the College’s Admissions Office.

The Saint Rose women’s soccer squad captured the first national team championship in school annals in 2011. The Golden Knights finished the year 24-1-1 and scored a school record 90 goals. Senior forward Carmelina Puopolo was named the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Player of the Year while midfielder Christina Cuffari ('12) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year. Cuffari was also honored with the prestigious NE-10 Woman of the Year Award. Furthermore, head coach Laurie Darling Gutheil was honored as the NSCAA/Mondo National Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons.
The Saint Rose men’s basketball program generated the fourth highest winning percentage among all NCAA Division II institutions throughout the 1990’s. The Golden Knights won 78.5 percent of their games with a decade long 244-67 won-loss record.
The Saint Rose women's soccer team has also made seven NCAA Tournament Final Four appearances within the past 12 years and has won a record eight Northeast-10 Conference Championship postseason titles within the past 14 seasons.
Brandon Birchak captured the College’s first National Championship in any sport in March of 2007 after winning the one and three-meter diving events at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Buffalo.
145 Saint Rose student-athletes have been named Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic in recognition of academic and athletic excellence throughout the past 12-plus years.
13 of 15 intercollegiate athletic programs (cross country and track & field counted together) had a team GPA above a 3.00 and 24 student-athletes earned a 4.00 GPA for the Spring '21 semester.
213 Golden Knights garnered Northeast-10 Conference Academic Honor Roll accolades for the Spring 2021 semester. Those individuals account for 66.7 percent of the eligible student-athlete population that earned at least a 3.00 grade-point-average (4.00 scale). Of those honored, 24 achieved a 4.00 GPA to garner Academic Excellence honors.
Community Service: Saint Rose student-athletes regularly perform community service. Their efforts include raising money to offering free sports clinics at area schools and partnering with the Albany Police Athletic League, Arbor Hill Elementary School, and Team IMPACT.
Former men’s basketball standout Julian Lipinski (’18) was honored by the Northeast-10 Conference as it's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Lipinski was the third Saint Rose men’s basketball player within a 10-year span to garner this award. Dominykas Milka and Steve Dagostino were recognized in 2014 and 2008 respectively. Christina Cuffari, women’s soccer, and Caitlin Brauer, swimming and diving, were named the NE10 Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Former women’s soccer All-American Nina Predanic (’20) was honored by the Northeast-10 Conference as its Woman of the Year. She was the third Golden Knights women’s soccer player, fourth overall, to earn the award. Kailey Egbert and Christina Cuffari were recognized in 2009 and 2012 respectively. In addition, former All-American Caitlin Brauer, swimming and diving, was named the NE10 Woman of the Year in 2013.
Furthermore, Egbert and Brauer were among a mere 30 women, selected from groups of more than 450 nominees representing all three NCAA divisions, that were chosen as the top 30 honorees for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Saint Rose student-athletes are supported by a sports medicine staff that includes four NATABOC-certified athletic trainers. The sports medicine staff administers all phases of preventive training, care and injury rehabilitation. The staff also provides analysis to athletes on sport-specific nutrition, strength training and conditioning.
