Institutional Research

Institutional research is research activity carried out to collect and analyze data concerning students, faculty, staff and other educational facilities or activities. The primary purpose of institutional research is to promote institutional effectiveness by providing information for institutional planning, policy formation and decision-making within the College.

Primary Role

Nester talks to studentsInstitutional Research serves as the official repository of College data. Of primary importance to the work of Institutional Research is enrollment management. Collaboration with Enrollment Management and Student Affairs to engage in enrollment and retention management activities helps determine how best to retain students in their programs.

The Office of Institutional Research also serves as the primary contact point for reports and surveys requested from governmental and nongovernmental agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), College Board, U.S. News and World Report, AAUP, etc.

By nature of its work, the Office of Institutional Research provides vital data for internal and external surveys and reports. This data reveals strengths and weaknesses in the institution and is done with the aim of making sure the institution is working to accomplish its educational mission.
