RE: Great Places to Work

For the past two years, The Chronicle of Higher Education has sponsored a national survey featuring colleges and universities that can rightfully claim they are great places to work. Last year, our college was featured among the top colleges rated and this year we practically “ran the table” for recognition. In the most recent edition of the Chronicle, the publication of record in our industry, The College of Saint Rose was cited in 14 of 26 recognition categories – and included on the Chronicle’s Honor Roll as one of ten institutions “most cited among medium size colleges and universities”.

Over 41,000 faculty, administrators and staff members from 250 colleges and universities participated in the survey, the details of which are noted in the July 10 edition. Copies of The Chronicle of Higher Education are available in the college library. We have extra copies of the survey article in the president’s office if anyone wishes to read the entire piece.

Among the 14 categories cited for Saint Rose were the following:

1. Perception of and Confidence in Fair Treatment – Confidence in fair treatment, particularly regarding compensation and performance.

2. Internal Communications – Ideas are fully considered and issues debated for better results.

3. Work/Life Balance – Policies give employees the flexibility to manage their personal lives.

4. Professional/Career Development programs – Employees are given the opportunity to develop skills and understand requirements to advance in their careers.

5. Healthy Faculty-Administration Relations – Senior leadership communicates and respects faculty members.

6. Respect and Appreciation – Employees are regularly recognized for their contributions.

7. Collaborative Governance – Faculty members are appropriately involved in decisions related to academic programs.

8. Confidence in Senior Leadership – Leaders have the knowledge, skills and experience necessary for institutional success.

This survey validates what we have always known: the ability of our faculty, staff and administrators to work together as a community, dedicated to the Saint Rose mission. This is a constant that defines our character and sets us apart from many of our sister institutions across the higher education landscape.

I know you are gratified to hear of these survey results – yet another barometer of our enhanced reputation as a superb educational community.
