AIL Retreat

ALANA is Leadership

Initiative Goals:  The goal of the initiative is to support and partner with ALANA (African, Latin, Asian, and Native American) students as they excel in the areas of leadership development, academic achievement, and social responsibility while concurrently celebrating their scholarship.

Initiative’s Programs:

Mentoring Program
ALANA is Leadership is designed for students of color and students who are not of color but may be interested in sharing in an intercultural, cross-racial experience. The goal of the Mentoring program is to pair First Year Students with a student mentor/motivational coach that will guide them towards academic, personal and social success on campus. Through this program, students are actively developing a support system on campus, an opportunity to network, and are exposed early to the resources the campus has to offer. These are all important ingredients for maintaining student success and retention. By participating as a “Mentee” students are able to take the first step in their academic and leadership development process.

1st Year Student Mentee Workshops & Social Events

As part of the Peer Mentors program first year students will take part in several workshops/social events that will further aid in their adjustment and development. The Office of Intercultural Leadership's Graduate Assistant along with Peer Leaders present seminar sessions that discuss an array of topics from academic support, leadership development to the social aspects of being a first year student.

Intercultural Ambassador
The purpose of the Intercultural Ambassador is to develop a cooperative relationship and leadership skills among students of ALANA is Leadership while cultivating diversity initiatives and promoting campus unity. As part of the ALANA is Leadership initiative, the Intercultural Ambassador serves as an avenue for students of color and all racial justice allies to voice their concerns, interest, and develop a platform where the campus community is educated on matters of race and ethnicity relevant to interculturalism and diversity.
