COLLECTIONS IN THE ARCHIVES |
|
The Archives holds a rich collection of materials by and about the College and persons affiliated with the College. A large volume of non-current, official records of the College are also housed in the Archives.
Please refer to the Researcher Policy for information about access to these materials.
The collections include:
Includes graduation attire, nursing uniforms, orientation weekend t-shirts, belts, ties, and other garments.
Architectural Drawings and Blueprints Includes blueprints and drawings from campus construction and renovation.
Includes items created throughout the College's history. Among the artifacts, the Rose Queen crown is the most popular request. The collection also includes textiles, jewelry, suitcases, stemware, and much more!
Includes over 60 banners from various athletic and special events. You can see a description of each by searching the Library catalog. Search under the title: College of Saint Rose banners.
Special Collection books are evaluated by subject coverage, rarity, source, condition, and form. You can browse or search this collection through the Library catalog and using the "limits" feature. Limit to to the location: Archives and Special Collections.
A subset of these books, the Early Textbook Collection, includes textbooks and instructional manuals primarily from the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Search the Library catalog using the title: Early Textbook Collection.
Many collections have full or partial access restrictions. The following collections are fully available to researchers: 19th Century Pamphlet Collection, 1837-1876 [pdf] Rose Day Collection, 1924-1964 [pdf]
Recordings of events, symposia, and guest speakers are housed in the Archives. Many are now available in both VHS and DVD formats. You can see a description of each by searching the Library catalog and using the "limits" feature. Limit to to the location: Archives and Special Collections.
Everything from buttons to shovels can be found in the Memorabilia collection. These items were originally ephemeral in nature, but have been collected and preserved to document the College's history.
Includes recorded interviews with alumni, students, faculty, and staff of the College, primarily discussing College history.
Over 4500 photographs, including photographic prints, negatives, and slides of faculty, students, administration, buildings, and campus life. A database is available to search on a particular topic.
Includes many professional and student-made posters announcing events and programs. An inventory is available in the Archives Reading Room.

70 scrapbooks have been collected or donated. College life and college-sponsored trips are among the subjects documented in these books.
Each issue of the student newspaper has been preserved in the Archives. All issues through 2004 are also available on microfilm in the Library. Several issues are searchable via a database.
Master's theses are available in the Archives Reading Room. Often, there is a second copy in the Library's general collection.
The vertical files contain folders on many subjects and people affiliated with the College. Contact the Archivist to determine if the Archives has materials on your research topic.
All yearbooks, from 1924 to present, are housed in the Archives. A copy of each can also be found in the Library's Reading Room.
